In the rhetorical sense not the litteral sense, because none of us get laid.

Joking.

But seriously. Ever since the Xbox and the Xbox360 came out its like all the good games are getting deffered to the stupid consoles. After Halo was such a big hit its like Microsoft wont let any games go to PC until they've been thrown into the "not good enough for Xbox" bin. This particularly pisses me off in the FPS genre as of late. Everyone knows that PC vs. Console in an FPS, PC wins hands down, we saw it with Halo. The PC gamers wiped the floors with those console gamers. Maybe all the hype of these next-gen consoles has everyone all starry eyed with the "oooh look at the pretty graphics " *drool*.... Lies! PC has had graphics like that since 2005 (and for you noobs, thats a long time in hardware years).

So, I guess this is a plea to the guys that make the games, somewhere in teh intarweb. Stop crapping on gamers. We're mean SOB's and we'll hack you, and put spyware on your computers that will make lots of porn popups. The only way to escape this terrible fate is to release good games to the PC gamers, keep us happy, and playing all the good games you keep dangling in front of our noses, and snatching away at the last minute.

You have been warned...

(P.s. incase you were wondering, I'm only half serious with all this so dont ban me or try to sue me or anything. Particularly if you are experiencing porn popups and are a PC game producer...)

Tell me about it. I'm not a fan of consoles, but I can even feel for the PS3 crowd. Microsoft and its 360 is so invasive in the gaming industry. I'm tired of having Vista and 360 shoved down my throat.

I agree, with the ps1 and n64 days, it seems devolpers new what are for pc and what are for consoles. Then microsoft entered and it kinda started the whole excluisve deal. I mean ps1 and 64 had exclusives, but people bought each console for their advantage, like ps1 for there platforming and rpgs, and 64 for their first party titles and just that kinda of fun factor without a real depth to it like some ps1 games.

I agree as well. I'd also add that "part" of the problem is that we've lost so many "PC gamers" (and I suppose i use that term lightly in this regard) to WoW. Just think, if all those people weren't playing WoW (and to a smaller extent GW) that'd be about 10 million more people buying PC games instead of playing Wow and GW. (Not that they are terrible games, I've tried GW, got bored of it after a few months and have never played Wow). It just seems that PC game variety has suffered because of M$'s Xbox crap "and" Wow itself.

I could and hope I'm proven wrong on that eventually though. In fact, Wow could be one of the reasons PC gaming is holding on, so who knows. I just hope PC gaming gets better soon. Heck, I'm hoping that when Infinity: The Quest for Earth comes out, that it's the last game I buy for quite some time.

WoW (never played it myself) has what is wanting in these $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ games don't have - replay value. Most games released now, if you play it twice it's a miracle, as they have little to keep a person interested. Emphasis also on active anti-cheating, too (cheating still goes on, but a lot less than with the current throw-it-a-box-and-call-it-anti-cheat, PunkBuster [a disinterested third party]). It shows that those who do buy games put plots and interactions with the game (not just multiplaying frag fests) at a higher priority. It's a wake up call to devs on what really sells (compared to what is thrown in as a simple way to play the game online - with the same tired options - DM, TDM, CTF, etc.). It's also showing a clear split in the market: kids and *mature* adults, and the two game offerrings in one game don't mix well.

100% agree, I havn't played a good pc game that kept me hooked in awhile (Computer years) other than an MMO, and im getting tired of MMO's now. I just got an xbox 360 and the game selection of exclusives has just blown me away. By the end of this year, I'll probally be back to pc gaming with all the titles that are beeing released.

Do not fear my good friends... Now direct x 10 is out and about, the 360 has nothing to brag about, and more and more manufacturers will turn to the pc platform to find the capabilities of direct x 10

From what i've seen the 360's Ati R600 supports directx 10 so we wont see any differences. the thing in the gaming industry is making money first of all (check EA) then quality. When it comes to platforms it's consoles who win because of simplicity and because of the "casual gamer" wich would rather buy a console to play, watch a movie or listen to his music and because he doesn't need anything but etertainment.

As someone mentioned earlier, there are 10 million odd PC Gamers (in MMO's) who are mostly playing one game exclusively. Maybe they did buy one game a month or every few months before their MMO experience. But that is a pretty big number of people removed from the PC gaming market.

Plus consoles are more social machines and more casual gamer friendly.

Something to ponder on when it comes to the Gaming market.

Out of interest, what games are you wishing were coming out on PC that are going to console? All I can think of in the last year that I care about was gears of war.

We started getting screwed the instant that Halo was stolen from PC. M$ knew it was going to be a success so they stole it from the only people who cared about it, the PC crowd, and said "Hey retards! Want to play this game you've been drooling over for the last year? Well then buy an Xbox! Retards!" They treat us like we're robots who HAVE to have games and we'll buy whatever they tell us to have them. Well **** Xbox! No way will I ever contribute to that ****ing **** ass mother ****ing bull **** horse ****ing son of a rapist known as "Xbox."

Well this one is simple.

1. Price -The console market is larger and the potential to make even more money is possible. The same can't be said for the ever growing expensive p.c gaming market. Graphic cards, memory and other components are getting out of the reach of many. Even the so-called "mainstream" items are still expensive.

2. Ideas - 99% of pcgames are about first person shooters. The FPS genre has saturated the martket with garbage. New ideas need to be put out on the table.

3. Social Aspect - The console is a social device, the P.C isn't. While I love p.c gaming, if I have friends over then I am hooking up the 360 and playing over the plasma. You just can't do that with a p.c.

1. Don't forget about the TV ($700-1000 for a modest HDTV), more expensive game titles, Xbox live fee, accessories, etc...It's about the same really. 2. You can't be more wrong on this one. 3. Eh, you're right and wrong. You're right that consoles allow friends to play together, you're wrong because most of the games coming out right now are single-player only.

It started before then with Deus Ex: Independence War, and how Ion Storm tried to make a game to be used for both PC and console players. A royal and total failure, so much so Ion Storm doesn't exist anymore. Games origins began on the PC and it'll continue on the PC until PCs no longer will play them. Consoles come and go.

UUhhh how so we are still getting the cream of the crop for shooters, Strategy games, and Free form RPG's.  Which arguably imo are the big 3 genres that the computer has been excelling at for the past 3 to 5 years.. Man though do I wish they would bring back space sims.

Some good points to both arguments there (except the ideas part, shooters may be a dime a dozen but there are plenty of ideas out there).

As for the social aspect, its just different between consoles and PCs.  I can log on to BF2142 and play with more than 60 people, Joint Operations and play with 150 people, or World of Warcraft and play with thousands of people...yet on a PS3, the players are excited about 40 person multiplayer, and if you log on you might find a handful of servers with that many people.  In terms of online play and socializing online, PCs have consoles beat hands down not only because of the sheer amount of people available to talk to and play against, but also because of the keyboard and, in many cases, microphones and headsets.

Consoles are good because you can have your friends over and play Madden with three of them, but then you gotta play splitscreen (often 4 tiny screens, as with FPSs) and frankly, I'd rather play online in my room by myself against 60+ people than cram onto a couch.  I mean, if I want real face to face interaction, I will go play golf or football or go to the bars, not button mash while playing Halo.

To me, video gaming is a hobby.  Its a time to shut off the outside world and be alone, venting off whatever stress you absorbed at work or at school.  Its not a time to do some real socializing.  I am not a pasty skinned hermit, as I like to go to the bars, hang out with friends and watch movies...but video games just arent a time to do real socializing, imo.

Its simple economics my friend. People don't have money for super expensive computers, but most can afford a console. In other words when it comes to the latest games there are more console gamers than PC gamers and hence they will sell more (its also a hell of a lot easier to pirate pc games).

The price of computers is a misinformed guess at best.. You can make a very very very good computer for around $1000 that can rival the consoles right now in performance.. Not just that but the computer is capable of playing every game ever released for it, not to mention the thousands of other things that a console can NOT do.

No they arn't, there have been numerous RTS and TBS's releasing this entire year and last year..  Same goes for RPG's (though I was immensly disapointed with their quality, but still).. Not to mention MMO's are becoming main stream (whether this is a positive or negative, I am not gonna presume)..   Your misinformed here as well, just look at the sticky of why its good to be a pcgamer thread at the top.

I agree with the social aspect but there is a trade off..  PC internet community >>>>>>>> Console.. With the ability to have way more people on at once, modabiliyt making hundreds of not thousands of new multiplayers not to mention not having to depend off one system makes lag non existent.  Not to mention more and more games are starting to become lan friendly being able to play the game with out cd and not checking for cdkeys on lan.. So you can buy one game and play the game with multiple people.. Yes you can't sit down and play together, that is a trade off with the numerous more controls, options etc etc.

Lets also not forget the PCgaming industry is huge..  And only growing with the fact people NEED to have a computer now a days, for job, work etc etc.

This is probably precisely why many games are coming out on the consoles, PC fanboys are a whiny, vengeful lot who will sue at the first opportunity (look at nvidia), why would anyone specifically cater to such a hostile customer base if they really didn't have to is beyond me.

Moral of the story is, quit whining, who cares what the x360 gets?

That whole Nvidia thing is hilarious.. I honestly hope those idiots try to sue them, because in the end they will lose and be stuck with the gigantic bill...  All because they were too dumb to research before they buy something.. HMMM

Just wait until XBox, Wii, and PS3 hoodwinks console owners. Then console buggers will be begging to join a class action suit, too. PC gamers are perfectionists. They tailor their rigs for the best performance. If the hardware is crappy by design, pushed by bad PR, and condoned, you can bet those who fork over $$$$ a year on hardware want their money back! Besides, how are you posting here? On a Wii? ;) So much for consoles being "social machines"........

WAH WAH WAH nothing is stoping you from buying consoles besides unwarrranted elitest thinking... i'm glad you're missing out of games because you're too good to purchase a console... there's a simple solution... instead of whining you can... buy a console i'll enjoy crysis, STALKER, MGS's, Halo's, GOW and all of that and you won't hear me complain.

I hate to say it but the pc gaming market is going to continue to shrink.
The things that made pc gaming are no longer exclusive to the pc.

I started in this industry way way back. My first projects were on a bbs with 300 baud modems ( thats about .03k per second transfer rate.) . The bbs was unique then, you could dial up a persons home phone that had there pc connected and was running software so other users could connect and leave messages, play games , etc. If they wanted to have text based multiplayer they had to order more phone lines from the phone company, more modems, etc and that was really expensive , BUT, it was something unique that couldn't be done any other way.

Things improved. You got the internet with dialup and dos, maybe even windows 3.1 . I worked with the kali for dos programs and getting warcraft to work over dialup with 300ms pings. Constant disconnects, packet drivers, BUT, it was again something that couldn't be done any other way. Consoles were just not up to snuff.

Next you got the 3d revolution with the voodoo cards from 3dfx. Consoles had nothing like it. Hardware 3d mechanically switched through the 2d card. It was expensive, but again offered something the consoles couldn't.

Present day.
Consoles that are more than adequate to display 3d to the masses. Multiplayer  that is simple. Plug and play gaming.
The pc has going for it that it can improve quicker , faster upgrades in hardware. But it lacks one thing.
It needs to innovate to survive. The average joe is not going to spend a grand on a pc to play games that come with
driver issues, bugs, hardware incompatibilities just to see better graphics. They would rather plop down 300.00 on a xbox and come home , plug it in and play.  The pc has lost its edge. It needs something that the consoles can't offer.

What that is I don't know, if I did I would quit my work now and form my own company.
As it is, I see many friends in the industry moving to console only development.  They still love the pc , but its just not where the money is  anymore.

I don't own a single console that I develop for, I still prefer the pc, but I am the minority now.

First-Person Shooters are so popular because they're pretty much the only thing worth playing :D

You stated both the past and the present, but what about the future?

Consoles are already starting to mimic pc's (in regards to features, price, and complexity). Computers will become more user friendly and cheaper, while consoles will become more expensive and complex, so basically these two platforms are about to meet in the middle somewhere and nothing will differentiate themselves from each other.

Will people abandon consoles because you can get the same exact experience on a pc plus more? Or will all games and hardware developed for gaming be reserved for consoles?

I think consoles are going to be "absorbed" into pc's in the future. Just look at the PS3, imagine what the PS4will be, a sony VAIO with spiderman font.

And to the TC, i dont believe we are getting "screwed". Even if most of the releases are ports, the ports are usually better than their console counterparts. Besides, no console has yet to get battlefield 2. It's exclusives like that which dont make me feel screwed. (although cod2 did kinda suck compared to cod1 and uo)

i think the people saying that consoles are getting more complex are delusional... the only thing complex is picking which version you want... larger or smaller hard drive.

consoles are still plug and play like they've always been since the NES days... even the internet connection is as simple as giving yourself a name, and plugging a cable in the back.

consoles and PC will never merge in our lifetimes

[QUOTE="smerlus"]WAH WAH WAH nothing is stoping you from buying consoles besides unwarrranted elitest thinking... i'm glad you're missing out of games because you're too good to purchase a console... there's a simple solution... instead of whining you can... buy a console i'll enjoy crysis, STALKER, MGS's, Halo's, GOW and all of that and you won't hear me complain.

I don't give a F about what consoles get and what PC don't. But I do care about the PC gaming quality, which has gone downhill since next-gen consoles became so popular with all the styles and no substances. But you don't care right? As long as it's got beautiful graphics, action, and more action all is good for you.

ummm who's talking about graphics? that's a pc thing... anytime you see people talking about PC being superior is graphics... look at the posts on the PC board... a bunch of people are waiting for GoW, Re4, Mass Effect... all to hit PC and what's their claim to fame? "it's going to be better on PC because of the graphics" PC elitists are the biggest graphic whores on the planet. and games like deus ex and oblivion suffer because the devs want money... not because of the consoles. if PC gaming wasn't rife with pirates and new graphics cards every 3 weeks, maybe developers and consumers wouldn't become pissed off at the PC platform.

I don't indentify myself with those graphic wh*res, they would go buy a 360 in a heartbeat if its got better graphics than the high end PCs. I'm talking about the quality, the depth, the ideas, the challenge, all of which are seen less and less over the years. I worry because a complex game like Fallout is gonna turn into a FPS with stats because it's developed for the 360. I'm worrying because cRPGs are turning into jRPGs. Ah and gimme a break about the piracy stuff. I live in a college dorm and people here play pirated console games all the damn time. You download the files, you burn them into the DVD, you do some modification to your console and then voila!

There's still a lot of money in PC gaming to be made yet though. I know publishers like EA and THQ know this the best.

All you have to do is look at the top of this forum at the topic about PC gaming in 07!

The only game I see on console I would want to play is Gears of War.

But that game and Halo are coming out on the PC

Microsoft is really pushing PC gaming now with thier "Games for Windows" spiel.

If there were no PC games...there would be no  need for top end computers ( just computers capable of web surfing and any 486 could do that)

Computer builders and parts suppliers would go bankrupt in a heartbeat...

Microsoft along with them...and they aren't going to let that happen...even if they have to make the games themselves.

There are many many PC games coming out this year alone....too many to list.

So do yourself a favor and read the post about the Reasons to be a PC gamer in 07

seriously i dont get this thread or anyone on here.. just enjoy the games out for pc and 360.. their both running on microsoft software so whats the difference? if you want keyboard and mouse then wait till its out for pc.. or just get used to the damn coontroller already. if you dont get it still the reason why console is better for gaming is because you dont have to install and you dont need upgrades to play the new games..it will always be like that get used to it.. buy your 360, wii or ps3 and get your pc... in the end you will be a hppy gamer.

Erlkoenig

This is probably precisely why many games are coming out on the consoles, PC fanboys are a whiny, vengeful lot who will sue at the first opportunity (look at nvidia), why would anyone specifically cater to such a hostile customer base if they really didn't have to is beyond me.

Moral of the story is, quit whining, who cares what the x360 gets?

You really thought he was serious when writing that paragraph? You really did? I feel sorry for you.

You really didn't get what I was trying to say, were you?

Of course the guy was joking, its just that there are way too many similar statements nowadays from PC gamers that were NOT joking, to the point that it's really not worth working for such a hostile community anymore.

PC never gets any exclusive titles now.

Bioshock.... also on 360
Crysis.... rumoured to be on 360
UT 3.... on PS3 and 360

And look at all the crappy ports we get... the main offender for this seems to be the Tom Clancy games.

that Crysis isn't going to be the same as the Crysis for PC... it's going to be a less graphical version.

I don't agree with that. Take me for example, I play WoW but I also play tons of other PC games. Just take a look at my Xfire profile if you won't take my word for it.

Aw dude it's no better over there in the PS3 and 360 boards. And devs weary because of hostile PC gamers? Hah, and I thought I have seen many funny things. Hey wake up! They're neglecting PC because there is more money to be made from console and that's it.

Ah and gimme a break about the piracy stuff. I live in a college dorm and people here play pirated console games all the damn time. You download the files, you burn them into the DVD, you do some modification to your console and then voila!Erlkoenig

so what's harder.... 1) paying money for a chip and getting it installed then burning games, or 2) searching the net for cracks and then downloading and burning games?

if you think there's more console piracy going on that PC... you're sadly mistaken.

ChocoKat

You got everything right! The PC market is really saturated with a heap of garbage games and the FPS market is getting old. Games like Battlefield 2142 helped but the other FPS games are getting really old and boring. Look at the PC releases every week ...it's filled with a bunch of console rejects.

Compare the activity in this forum to xbox 360, PS3 and even Wii. The console market is just too big so developers can easily make money on it. PC game sales are really not that good either.

No, I won't dispute that, but you're overplaying the piracy card. That's not the real reason behing the declining gaming quality.
