I really like strategy games and I'm wondering if Rome 2 is worth it
... Wait for a steam sale or another comprable sale.. During the last steam sale I think it was selling for as low as $10 to $20.. Don't pay full retail for it.
It's a good game. If you like historical strategy games I'm sure you'll like this one. I'd wait for a sale though unless you really want it right now.
There is also Attila coming out next month (and apparently costs less than Rome 2). Previous titles like Shogun 2 are still great options as well.
I think Rome 1 is better. If there's any Total War game, you should play that. If you've already played that, then yea, I'd recommend Rome 2.
I'd recommend it only when it goes on sale. I would not be surprised if one pops up around the time Attila comes out to promote the franchise.
Ive owned every TW game to date but have thankfully waited long periods of time before buying them. I recently bought Rome 2 and I have to say, it runs pretty well. I having gotten a chance to check out the campaigns but I dont think its bad. Was worth the $15 at least for the Emperor Edition. The added campaign should give it some longevity and if I really like it later on, Ill see about the other campaigns. Im just glad I waited. I played a lot of Shogun 2 and also bought Fall of the Samurai but now Ive learned that getting the DLC and having a "complete game" doesnt do anything for me if I never get to the point where Im playing the DLC. Get the base game on sale and see if you like it.
I would say that Shogun 2 was better, but Rome 2 seems to have been mostly fixed now (take it with a grain of salt, only put around 4 hours into it) but it is good :) As a rule of thumb, pick up the total war game set in a time period you like. If that is the roman times, I think I would say Rome 2 over the first Rome: Total War game now.
But as many others said wait for a sale. It was really cheap at the xmas sale, and when Atilla comes out it will likely be on sale Again.
I am not the one to ask, unfortunately. I am a somewhat reasonable grown-up who functions at a pretty high level in real life most days.
Such a person should be able to sit down, put their thinky-thought brain-cells on, and enjoy a few rounds of a thougthful Total War strategic campaign. Thus far, however, I have not been that guy.
I've tried. I haven't totally given up on it yet.
I did like Civ 5 for a little while but haven't completed that either. Maybe I am more of a turn-based TACTICAL guy over a turn-based STRATEGY guy.
