CPU: i5 4670K @4.2 GHz
GPU: AMD HD 7770 OC
RAM: 8GB @1600MHz

Can I play it at least medium settings 60fps? (1680x1050 resolution)

Highly doubtful, maybe on low settings.

Your question should be:

Is GTAV good enough for your computer...

Also, keep in mind that rockstar is terrible at optimization. GTAIV didn't run good on any computer when it came.

GTA 1 ran fine, GTA 2 ran fine, GTA 3 ran fine, Vice CIty ran fine, SA ran fine, IV didn't (yet still better than ps3 and 360), Max Payne ran fine, LA noire ran fine....let's not get carried away here.

TC, your PC will probably run it, highly doubt 60fps on any setting though

Highly doubtful, maybe on low settings.

It runs on the xboxone but not at 60 fps, it runs at 30 fps and in a lot of cases even lower., it does run at 1080p though, the xboxone probably runs at medium detail settings. The x1 gpu with the esram is a bit stronger than that hd 7770, your cpu is way stronger than the x1 though.

Medium settings and 60 fps will probably only be possible on 720p (1280 x 720). 1680 x 1050 will probably be 40 ish or even less, this is the kind of resolution where the hd 7770 starts bottlenecking with a lot of games. Of course lowering the detail settings would improve framerate but the hd 7770 is more of a 720p card for the latest games. GTA V is still a last gen remaster though so you might get lucky.

Still, you would greatly improve your performance at higher resolutions like 1680 x 1050 by upgrading your graphics card. A 750ti would already be a nice upgrade and it only uses 60 W. Ideally would be a gtx 960 but it costs 200+$, the 750 ti is more 140 ish. But when you spend that amount of money you could look even further because the gtx 960 only has 2gb and that's a bit small for future games. However it is also based on maxwell and doesn't use a lot of power. With the next maxwell based cards (the gtx 970) you're looking already at 350$+. If power consumption isn't you're greatest concern and you don't mind amd you can have a r9 290 already for 270 ish $ that has the same performance. But for that you will a psu that can run it (600w at least) or high quality 500w.

If you decide to upgrade I would wait for the benchmarks and then look what card to buy, there are a lot of options but you'll need to spend at least 100$ to have a decent upgrade with a 500w psu. If you psu is weaker you'll have to spend at least 120-140$ for a 750 ti, but that card will work with any power supply unit. Of course these are new prices, there's also a second hand market. I bought my r9 280x for 120$ used. It's a hella strong card for that price but it uses an eye watering 250 W. I downclocked it a bit so it uses a bit less, the r9 280 x is after all a factory overclocked hd 7970 ghz edition and the 7970 ghz edition is a factory overclocked 7970.

of course you would never get this kinda of clock speeds on a 7970 but the r9 280 x has superior cooling, that doesn't change my power bill though :) Still, it's a wonderfull card , at full speed , it's 3 times as fast as your hd 7770. However if you can afford the r9 290, it uses about the same amount of power of the r9 280x but it will simply quadruple your hd 7770's performance for 250w of juice. The gtx 970 will do the same at only 160 W but you'll pay about 70$ more. You will have all the nvidia perks like physx but the card actually only has 3.5 gb instead of 4 gb. While the r9 290 has a fully fledged 4gb ram.

That 4 gb vs 3.5 gb will only come into play when you start playing at 4k but the gtx 970 also has vr support, in the sense that it has lower latency in video output. The nvidia 9 series are the only cards to have this feature.

So it's easy when you look at the difference between the latest nvidia 9 series and amd cards. Nvidia has

- less video ram

- a more expensive price tag

- support for physx

- support for vr

- maxwell technology, so a significantly smaller power enveloppe (it uses less power)

The 750 ti and 750 are the only other maxwell based cards, which means they also have that smaller power enveloppe. They don't have support for vr but they still have suport for physx and are a bit more expensive than the amd counterpart. The memory is about the same (2 gb) as amd counterparts. The gtx 750 is not really interesting for you since it is only a bit faster than the hd 7770.

If you wonder about the performance of other cards, this list should help you

Recommended req is 7870, you can only hope they've optimized the game well enough for your rig.

@thehig1: He is not below the minimum requirements.

Actually his GPU is twice as fast. Anandtech

Aren't the requirements from Rockstar not valid anymore?

Minimum specifications:

OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1, Windows Vista 64 Bit Service Pack 2* (*NVIDIA video card recommended if running Vista OS)

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs) / AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs) @ 2.5GHz

Memory: 4GB

Video Card: NVIDIA 9800 GT 1GB / AMD HD 4870 1GB (DX 10, 10.1, 11)

Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible

HDD Space: 65GB

DVD Drive

And the Recommended...

Recommended specifications:

OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1

Processor: Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.2GHZ (4 CPUs) / AMD X8 FX-8350 @ 4GHZ (8 CPUs)

Video Card: NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB / AMD HD7870 2GB

Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible

HDD Space: 65GB

@Zoneage123: Your PC should be able to play the game at 60FPS with a mix of low-medium settings at 1680x1050, judging by what Rockstar announced.

But remember that noone can tell you anything for sure until we see some benchmarks from hardware sites (unless he was a beta tester...).

Yeah witcher will require more horsepower. Lets hope that this is not because of non-optimisation cause XB1 GPU isn't so faster than 7770 (like 20% faster).

@commander said:

True but we can just make a speculation, nothing is for sure. Like I said before lets hope that the game is optimised well with low settings (PS3/X360 version), medium(X1), high(PS4) and two more settings (Very High and Ultra) for good (GTX770 / R9 280X) and high end(Titan X and dual GPUs, Titan Z, R9 295X) GPUs.

Well the next gen consoles are basically pc's , so the difference in optimization won't be far off.

Well if they keep on postponing it , I doubt that and rockstar may have had crappy ports according to some, personally I think the ports are pretty good. GTA IV for instance cries for a lot of horsepower if you want to max it out but it runs fine on weaker systems as well, if you lower the settings, the settings on consoles are pretty low afterall.

And look how this game looks in 4k, probalby modded though, but still, this is a 7 year old game.

Yeah this is modded. And as we know with mods a game can get incredible stunning eye candy if the modder is talented.

Hell, modders manage to make the 18 years old FFVII (qhimm forums http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?board=9.0), to look somewhat nice (they even made a custom OpenGL driver LOL)...

FFVII was released on PC when PCs were in era of stone age with 200Mhz CPUs and 2MB VRAM...

Yet you can see that people manage to take a game like this to an other level.

We are talking about a huuuuuge difference from the original that you cannot find in ANY mod doing even in the slightest the same today.

And no. GTAIV without mods is nice looking but not stunning for 2015 standards.

Btw... Futuremark has already updated 3DMark with DX12 and Mantle tests :D. I am going to post it. :D

Let's hope it is better optimised unlike gta 4, I have 2 ROG 780TIs in SLI and I can't get constant 60fps on 1080p. I read somewhere it is more CPU intensive in which case I've only got a I7-4790K.

You need to update your GPU.
