Vrm 99c(used to be a lot lower) and gpu temp 88c. They keep getting higher and higher. Asus r9290x dc2 oc. I live in texas and its really hot in my room. My gpu is making the room even hotter. are those temps normal?

If you have an ASUS 290x DC2 there is only so much you can do. As long as you keep the gpu below 90C you should be fine but a good rule of thumb is to keep that gpu below 85C to avoid long term issues.
The 290x is a hot gpu even with a DC 2 cooler. So your options are to use ASUS Gpu Tweak or msi afterburner etc and create a custom fan profile to bump up the fan rpm as temps get higher. Also what computer case and cooling do you have? Because those two things can make a big difference if the case cant expel the heat quickly enough or even not getting enough fresh air into the case.
AMD spent all of they're marketing telling everyone "they run at 95 degrees, so get over it"
Don't worry about it.

If they can maintain full boost speed at 95C... And if they are anything like Ivy Bridge processors from Intel... Imagine the OC you can get on them if you can drop the temperature down to 65C or lower. O_O
Intel' Ivy Bridge processors are stabilized by lower temperature more than increased voltage. Didn't you experience after delidding that the lower temps (was it 5C or so?) let you lower the voltage and still remain stable at 4.7?

They only said that because they wanted to sell their cards with their cheap, crappy reference coolers.
Aftermarket cards have shown to run at quite acceptable levels. Less heat is *always* better.
OP, if your room is really hot, that is likely making a big difference if there's nothing you can do about that part of the problem, then you'll have to look at ways of improving the cooling within your case. As somebody else suggested, custom fan profiles can be useful. Adding fans(or replacing current ones with better fans) might be an option. De-clocking the card is a bit of a last resort sort of option, if its even possible with your card.
your first mistake was buying an AMD card.
from what i have heard, that is normal for the R9 cards. they are quite possibly the hottest, most energy inefficient cards ever. 100C is pretty much par for the course.
You've got wrong info there, my 280X doesn't pass 70c.
Their 290/290X is hot as 780, that's the cost of high end GPU.

Were you not around at the release of the GTX470/480?

Only reference(stock AMD) cards.
The Asus DC2 290x should be running cooler than that.

With the DC2 you have to run the fans at 100% to keep them under 80C
The very least (and inexpensive) thing you can do is take the side cover off and point a desk fan into the case.
Other than that make sure your case fans are running well. If they're not replace them with more efficient fans or if possible add more.
The R9 290x is apparently a very hot card, under load. Anything you can do to reduce the temps is good. Electronics run better and last longer with lower temperatures (I'm sure you know that though). I know this first had, I've just had a card die on me and I'm pretty sure it was because the card ran very hot, which again the model was known for. It was less than 3 years old.

oh god. here we go. "MINE DOESNT DO THAT SO CLEARLY NONE OF THEM DO. YOU ARE WRONG."
YOU have wrong info. do one google search. just one. for any of the hardware reveiw sites. the r9 cards, even non ref, run in the 90-100C range as a standard. you have to blast the fan speed with a non reference cooler to get them to run at lower temps.

Blast the speed? it's running 50% of it's full speed.
I don't know what kind of review sites you're looking at or on what enviroment they were tested in, But I live in a pretty hot country and it doesn't go above 80 on the hottest day.
I agree with Horgen. From what I've seen, it's just the 290x that runs that hot.
Though @Geminon, I can see @PredatorRules's reaction is warranted because you did you a bit of a blanketing term when you said R9 cards. Perhaps you were just speaking about the 290x?
Okay now its at 92c and 110cvrm :O, 30 mins into DAYZ. This is almost worse than the reference cooler. WTF.

Sell it and buy 2 Titan Z
Do it.
This is a temporary card till Maxwell comes out or R9 300 series. I just hope it will last that long.
@PredatorRules:
Where did you get that chart?
I have run a Google Image search, and I came up with Guru3D. Did you take it from Guru3D?
Also, just if anyone of you is wondering, Geminon has a long-standing issue against AMD, as can be seen here. You might want to take his opinion with a pinch of salt, if you are not doing so already.

Yes, it is from guru3d =)
