okay so you the user want to get a cpu for a little bit of everything. maybe do some virtualization, some gaming, and you want to verclock. guess what. you got jacked by intel as you now have to choose. WCCFtech has looked into the matter and its accurate as hell.

k series cpu's can overclock but they lack virtual ahrdware extensions making VM's impossible on K series cpu's. but they are on non-k variant which are COMPLETELY LOCKED, meaning you can even brute force a tiny overclock out.

this should be an interesting fight we have here. haswell is a stock flop with two faces vs amd's weaker, cheaper, one size fits all approach. who will come out on top?

Has anyone called you a fan boy idiot lately:roll:   just anyone who follows tech stuff knows that Haswell sucks.  Why not tell me something new?  Otherwise, you are just wasting space in the forum.  PS: It would be nice if you would use spell-check at least sometimes.

Wasn't this the same behavior with the previous tech? I mean, I bought the 3820 processor because I knew that the 3770K wasn't able to support virtualization (source: intel ark ) and was locked to 32GB of RAM. Why is this news?

This doesn't mean Haswell can't run VMs, it's just missing some VM related features.

Nothing new, Intel has always be bad as far as letting consumers do what they want with their cpu. Support the underdog and buy AMD, you'll hardly notice the difference. If it wasn't for AMD intel would probably started soldering the cpus to the motherboard by now.

This is for vt-d, hardware virtualization still works. It's the same thing for ivy bridge and sandy bridge.

vt-x still works.

So how much real world difference is there?

Would this prevent you from running certain VMs? Or certain software in a VM? Or just lower performance in VMs?

Zing! I think we have a winner. AMD in most cases matches intel @1080P in maxed out resolution and in Crysis 3 FX 8350 actually BEATS intel's Core i7 2600K.

Heck if you want to get a Haswell CPU you have to get a new MB because Haswell uses a new socket lolololo. Whereas if you had brought a Bulldozer CPU back in 2011 you could have upgraded to Piledriver or wait for Steamroller because they will be using the same socket.

People are ignorant and buy into intel's marketing crap.

What is the big deal here?

If you want to overclock, simply buy the K-series.

upgrading the CPU has never been something i do. I build a decent PC, keep it for 3-5 years. might swap a GPU 1 or 2 times, might upgrade the ram, add a few HDD's. Once it no longer fulfills my needs, i hand it down ot family and buy a new one :D stretching my i7 930 out now though. Might drop a better heat sink and OC it to last till skylake ( i have some heavy video editing to do later this, only have cash for fan upgrade, not CPU or PC upgrade)
