How many games do you play at once?

Or, rather, can you limit yourself to only one game until you've completed it? Lately I seem to have been switching back and forth between several games, but I'm typically the type to play through one until I finish it. Just wondering how many out there are (or aren't) in the same boat.

2 or 3 I would guess although sometimes I'm just playing through one like I am now with Dead Space 3. Having a few on the go introduces some variety and is also sometimes good for contrast.

I can really only focus on one at a time. Unless they are sports games or competitive FPS games

I tend to stick to one game and see it through. It's more immersive that way. If I lose interest, and I move to another game.. then I usually never return to the one I played before it. Hence why I have so many games that I haven't finished.

Between PC and consoles I don't think I can count. I am working back log from a decade ago and current games. I will probably never catch up.......

Normally I start games and then finish them (the ones I intend on finishing) later on.  I have started The Witcher 2, Bioshock, Dead Space 2, LA Noire, and Max Payne 3.  I am always playing Dark Souls as well.  (That's 6 games!)

TIL I need to finish some games.

I try to play through one game at a time since I don't have that much time to play, so I want to remember whats going on the next time I get some gaming in. Sometimes i'll play 2, or have one I'll play and take a break to play another.. usually will be very different games incase I feel like playing one genre over another.

I play one at a time normally. Of I play more than one, it is one that requires thought and one that doesn't like Journey for example.

I can get into almost any number of multiplayer focused games at once and currently do so (switching between Counter Strike, Call of Duty, Payday: The Heist, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, Battlefield 3 and the Crysis 2 beta), but I like to keep it down to maybe 3 or so single player games, and try to stick to the same genre or I can start to lose track or get confused.

Right now I'm going through Fallout: New Vegas, the Borderlands games (finished 1, just need to complete the DLC), and Crysis Warhead. When I'm done with one or two of them, I'll move onto The Witcher 2 and The Darkness II.

Single player games? Usually one or two. Not counting stuff like Super Meat Boy with no real story.

#14 Posted by mhofever (3952 posts) -

I play quite a few multiplayer games like BF3, Chivalry, Starcraft II and DayZ. As for singleplayer games, depends. If they're sandbox games like Skyrim and Far Cry 3, I usually play them quite a lot and then I have one main game to focus on, which is Spec Ops right now.

How many controllers can you use at once... me only 1

I like to stick to one game until i finish it... but we all know how that ends up lol. Lately i've been pretty good with my rule but sometimes i throw in a few games for variety.

#17 Posted by bonafidetk (3820 posts) -
usually a couple of multiplayer games. Only 1 single player game most often. Unless I get bored of it. If its not fun then I dont see the point in forcing myself to finish it. Looking at you hitman absolution.

I used to do 3+ at a time. Not anymore. Going at it one at a time makes me appreciate each game more.
#19 Posted by yonyz (527 posts) -

I used to have dozens of games installed, now I tend to finish what I start, but not for the sake of finishing it. If it's not fun, I just admit that I threw away as many dollars as it cost me, and move on to other games I bought or want to buy next.

2-4 I dunno. I usually tend to focus on one on my most powerful PC but I also play other games on my less powerful PC, PS3 and 3DS.
#21 Posted by chrisrooR (9026 posts) -
I switch between different games pretty regularly. There's never one game I'm playing at any time; except maybe for BF3. I've been playing alot of that recently.

Usually playing between 2-6 games in any given week. I like to build mods too. My Steam Profile.

I'm really bad at this,I balance like 12 games at a time, including two mmos(eve, gw2) Wish there was more hours in the day
#25 Posted by halo2_4_pc (1561 posts) -

Usually 4.

- An MMO (WoW if I have a decent amount of free time that month, otherwise GW2)

- A competitive game of some kind (Project M, SSF4:AE, SC2, LoL, Dota 2, CS:GO, etc.)

- A game from my backlog

- A portable game

#26 Posted by Darkslayer16 (3611 posts) -

Way too many, I only really stick with one game if it somehow hooks me. My back log is 100s so I'll never catch up and just be able to play one game at a time.

#27 Posted by Cobra_nVidia (1443 posts) -

Varies. Sometimes I play one game for days and weeks, another I play a number of games in one day

Well if you stop playing you get the best ending in the game.

At my age now which is 40 I am having trouble playing a single game.  I have been able to have some fun with Saw for the Xbox 360 the last few days and hope to complete it before moving onto anything else that has a story.  In between playing this I played some Indie game on Xbox 360.  A basketball game I can't think of right now.

Soooooo with all that said I can play more than 1 game at a time but only 1 game can be story driven.

#31 Posted by Starshine_M2A2 (4074 posts) -

However many my hard drive will allow at one time. Currently I have five installed but I'm focused on Deus Ex at the moment. I'm also trying to play Far Cry 3, Dead Space 3, Dishonored and WoW.

#32 Posted by Lucianu (9349 posts) -

I play one good game at a time until i finish it, then buy another that might interest me. If i buy a chunk of games at a time, i completely lose my commitment for a game, because i get the urge to switch back and forth, and eventually get bored of every one of them.

#33 Posted by CaptainAhab13 (5121 posts) -
I play my usual online multiplayer, then 1-2 RPGs.
#34 Posted by neatfeatguy (3425 posts) -

Right now I'm on a kick of finishing off older games in my library that haven't been completed. I just tackled (in the recent 2 weeks) Saints Row: The Third, Torchlight 2 (though I'm working on my 2nd play through), Bastian and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (single player).

Right now I'm working on.......Borderlands 2.

Usually I bounce through a handful of games, but I just want to clean up my library right now.

#35 Posted by FPS_Gamer123 (4363 posts) -
I swap between a few, but I consistently always play Dota 2 no matter what.

I always want to play only one game at a time. But when some new games are released,I can't help trying them.Only a few games like Mass Effect series can make me concentrated.

I play 4 games at once. I am Octaman!

I can't play more than 3 games at once. Anymore than that and I have to keep checking the options menu to remember the different keys.

2 or 3 games

Currently just playing a few games. GW2, Dead Space 3, the rest are multiplayer. I kinda got annoyed and don't really feel like starting Dark Souls over due to my save file getting corrupted...

Actually 4 plus the online ones i always play like css/go and bo2.

#43 Posted by Malta_1980 (11215 posts) -

Wish i was strong enough to limit myself but I always end up getting multiple games at once :(

Since I can remember always had a backlog of games to finish !!

too many at a time... damn you games company
#45 Posted by NightmareP3 (246 posts) -

I usully just pick one and game and focuse only on it untill i'm done with it and than move on, however lately iv'e been finding myself constantly switching between games non-stop.

I generally favor around 3 games at a time.  Right now it is pretty evenly split between SWTOR, Anno 2070, and Battlefield 3.  Though with the recent release of Dragonborn (for Skyrim), I have not played much BF3.

I also dabble a bit with other games; right now, those would be SimCity 4, Trine 2, FTL, and SPAZ
