I have used a pc with a 780 ti, core i5 4670 3,4 ghz and 16 gb ram for 5 months now.
How long will this setup last me if im willing to go down to 1280*1024 and lowest settings in the future? i am not willing to play at 1024*768 as that is very blurry and i cant see anything.

The card will last as long as this console generation stays. There is no reason to run games that low of a resolution with a 780ti.

With your rig, I would like to think you could get 5+ years out of it, especially if you are willing to use a lower than 1080p resolution and low settings. I have had my 6870 for 4 years now, and it plays newer games at 1080p on med to high settings.

Years...

You shouldn't be settling for anything less than 1080P and 60 FPS for quite some time...

Edit: I bought a top of the line card when it first dropped about 2 years ago (HD 7970) and it's still maxing out games. Only game that ever slowed down on me is when I installed a cinematic ENB on Skyrim but I was still hanging around 25-30.

Lowest settings with top end GPU you say? I repeat on @geniobastardo answer > 6-7 years from now.

Whatever this console generation lasts, and I doubt you will ever go that low in resolution.

Great to hear it will last a long time. This will give me time to focus my money on other important things for the next 6-7 years.

Until it breaks or a new generation of consoles comes out and even then you will be okay for a while , still rocking a AMD 5870 from 2009 and goes toe to toe with the new consoles , but that's thanks to a overclocked 4gz i7 920 too , but you get the idea :)

5870 doesnt go toe to toe with the new consoles, maybe with the One but the PS4 got it beat , but the 780 TI should last you easily years , espcially with lower level access coming to all soon, improving cpu performance and game performance

The mods and ENB are bringing down my FPS as well. I use one card since there are ENB issues and problems with ECE. So mine hovers around 30.

im still using my 680gtx i got back in early 2012, and practically every game I can max at 1080p still. 780ti is a beast, it'll last many more years, i don't see you having to downgrade to such a low resolution.

I'm possibly going to upgrade to a new video card but also not desperate to because everything is working well.

It should last you a while. Have a 780ti 3Gb myself, however will probable upgrade to the new NVidia series when they are released, simply due to VRAM limitations. I imagine they will release 6Gb VRAM cards in the higher end. I am noticing more and more games are requiring more VRAM, simply because of the architecture of the new consoles. Look at COD Advanced Warfare: recommended GTX760 4GB. Watchdogs stutters on 3GB cards. It's a sign of what's going to become normal where VRAM will be the deciding factor moreso.

same with the 570/2500k. Playing all the recently released titles maxed out in 45-60fps (divnity-Wolfenstein-DkS2 were the last three), dunno why ppl spend $700 on gpu's every year when graphical improvements are minimal since 2010. Would understand if you're rocking 1440p but at 1080p? Why? Spend $700 to play shallow games like Crysis 3 maxed? There's nothing that is extremely demanding and quality, even less the amount of those quality/demanding games.

You'll be more then fine, my overclocked 7870 still rocks out the frames/settings. (at 1080p mind you but that is more than enough for me.)

If I will say 7 years at least it wouldn't be enough.

Even a 7years 8800GTX can run games at 1280x1024. Some times with medium or more settings (like Diablo 3).

So I wouldn't worry if I were you...

Not as long as you think.

3GB of vram will simply not be enough, not even at 1080p.

I game with dual GTX 570s still. I've had them for just over 3 years now (got them around May 2011).

A single screen in my setup runs the games at 1680x1050, but if I play a game across all screens I'm using 5040x1050. I can run any game I have on high to maxed settings on 1680x1050 and any game I enjoy playing at 5040x1050 I run on high settings.

I don't see myself dumping my cards anytime soon and figure I'll get another 2+ years out of them.

As to answer your question; a GPU will only work as long as it functions (obviously), but the performace you're willing to accept will only be based on your own personal preferences. A high end GPU should not have issues with handling newer games over the next 3-6 years, but it all depends on if there are any massive jumps in technology (usually not the case) or your personal preferences that may cause you to upgrade sooner.

The GTX 8800 can actually play Bioshock Infinite at 1600x900 using the highest directx 10 settings and still run at over 30fps.

Yeah!! I have a friend that since the day he bought GTX8800 he didn't changed it for like 7 years and he plays all games at (16:10) 1440x900 without a problem :).

You will probably run all 1080p games at high/ultra for the rest of the generation.

is your 4560 the K version?

I would say 3-4 generations from now. New APIs, new architecture features, and games using more VRAM.
