Dont spend a fortune on your first PC, you will regret it, when you have a few rigs you have built, you can experiment with a higher budget, but spending $1500+ on your first rig isnt recommended.

You can upgrade everything bit-by-bit except motherboard, CPU and occassionally RAM.

It's a PC you can upgrade any part of it; give me a budget and I'll build you something nice.

Note that if you build a good base you'll only need to upgrade GPU down the years.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/jpntdC this will last you for a couple of years on max settings, if it's too much I could try to reduce some parts.

You gave the poor guy a CFX system on his first build, you want him to quit PC gaming for good? lol

I'd recommend going for single GPU on your first build.

The 290x is 5.6 teraflops, the 290 is 4.9 teraflops but about $100 cheaper.

DDR4 is currently only on X99 platform and going that route will cost you some more money. For mainstream we have to wait for Skylake and Z170 mobos.

GDDR5 is commonly used in GPUs though.

Wut? just like @horgen said, DDR4 is the newest and it's only at X99 MOBOs which cost about 200$ each, not to mention you'll have to buy far more expensive CPU to suit the MOBO.

If you're talking about GDDR5 which GPUs are using, that's got nothing to do with MOBOs.

If you insist on DDR4, then X99 platform it is. This means processors such as 5820K, 5930K and 5960X. If you are willing to spend money on a 5820K or a 5930K you will have a great processor that should last perhaps 5+ years if the current trend of increased performance continues. As for GPU... Titan X is the best you can get now, however bang for buck is probably GTX970. There is rumour about a 980Ti being released after summer. It might be faster than the Titan X.

Waste of money going X99, DDR4 doesn't have a significant impact on gaming.

You'll be fine with DDR3 and a $120-150 Z97 mobo.

For your first rig, you should go with the Core i5 4670K, Z97 mobo, 8GB DDR3, GTX 970, 2TB HDD + 256GB SSD, good brand PSU at least 500W, choose whatever case you want, if you're building it yourself a spacious mid tower is recommended for cable management and ease of installation.

Why not? I'm close to $3000 on my 1st gaming rig and I regret nothing. Gonna be well over $4000 once 390X comes out, getting two of them.

$3000 USD? uhhh ummm

@GTR12: Haha, same here :) In fairness, between the Alienware and the two I have built, it had the least problems. Still not worth that much money, but it was something I had always wanted.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/dHvZdC nothing too special, it just bumped the price from 800$ to 1200$, with the cheapest MOBO/CPU for the X99 platform
