Hi gamers. I currently have a gaming PC from 3 or so years which runs current games fine (i7 CPU and radeon HD 5850). I basically went to a local shop and told them to build me a rig with a i7 and the 5850 and 4gb ram . the rest of the rig was filled with the employee's preference of parts. But I plan on learning all about the PC and its parts so I can really get all the parts myself and build. I need to learn what is for what function and what parts are compatible to others. Please refer me to MODERN learning sites ,guides, vids, etc. Because some sites teach about the PC and referring to ancient parts that are irrelevant for me who wants to build with the best of the best. All help is appreciated.

Sorry if I've misunderstood this but you have a PC with an i7 and 5850 and went to a store to build another rig with an i7 and 5850?

The way I learned was to google "how to build a PC" and read countless articles and videos. That was years ago so are probably well out of date by now but the foundations are there.

Well... For gaming nowadays an i5 4670K is excellent. Mobo-wise get a Z87 so that you can OC that CPU. And only CPU ending with K can OC.

RAM wise 8GB 1600MHz should do it. GPU wise... Well the top ones now are 780Ti, 290X, 780 and 290.

How to assemble the PC... just use youtube.

What is your budget? We can help picking parts :)

I plan to build the PC by mid next year to play the new gen games such as battlefield 4 maxed out. My budget is good enough to buy the best parts, but I am not a blind buyer so-to-say. I think i'll probably post a similar topic when the time comes to buy the parts. By the way, when do AMD and NVIDIA usually announce and sell new gpus, and Intel for the CPU?
