-Thinking of getting Audio Technica AD700, do I need a sound card? Currently using onboard sound (MSI Z77A).

-Should I wait for it to dip below $100? In other words how frequently does it get a sale. I hear it can go for as low as $70ish.

1. No, its 32 ohms. 2. Not sure.

Thanks, what does #1 mean though? The Xonar DG seems to get paired with this headset a lot from what I've read, seems the headphone amp helps with AD700's lack of bass (and in general).

Its low impedance, doesn't need to be driven. It will improve with an amp though, any headphone does.

My HD429s improved with a xonar DG. You don't 'need' a sound card, but it can help. It depends on whether the sound built in to your motherbooard is good or not and how bothered you are about it. Xonar DG also has an equaliser so you could up the bass a bit if you wanted.

xonar dg w/external amp :) I wonder how much better is an stx or essence.

If I can get it shipped. Dealers listed over schiit.com don't even have it. Do you know any websites that offer it besides amazon.com?

People pair the AD700 with a sound card NOT for the amplication, but for headphone surround. CMSS-3D Headphone, Dolby Headphone, that sort of thing. Way better than just playing in plain one-dimensional stereo.

So I really like the Beyerdynamics headphones, and am wondering whats top notch for 200-400? I need a new headset for my build.....Especially being I want true 5.1 or 7.1!

True 5.1/7.1, as with multiple drivers? Do you enjoy wasting money? If you like Beyerdynamic headphones and insist on a headset instead of the headphone + ModMic route, I suppose the MMX300 would be the logical conclusion, though it's more on the $300-400 end of things. Just make sure you run it through a sound card with CMSS-3D Headphone, Dolby Headphone, THX/SBX Pro Surround, etc. to get the most out of it.

Not specifically a fan of wasting cash :) Haha just trying to get a feel for quality headsets, will definitely look up your recommendations!

Just wondering if you were aware how much more expensive they are for the quality. i.e. £100 wired will beat £300 wireless.

I'm aware wireless cost more, but when I buy wired headphones I will be spending 1k+ and I don't feel like doing that currently and need wireless ones.

well I am in a markey for a new headset. Looking for a premium headset for games, music and movies but primarily games like battlefield 4.

Any suggestions? Razer Tiamat 7.1 has kind of failed me.
