I just bought a new graphics card for my PC (7600GT), and I'm running into trouble. In Medieval II, it locks up at a perticular point on the tutorial and then when i try to play the grand campaign, my computer seems to almost end the program as soon as it loads. It makes a beep like it does when you choose to end a task from the task manager and then shows a black screen until i press esc and the program ends. I have an onboard card which I'm pretty sure I disabled, and I have the latest drivers. I have ran temperature test and all run at normal temps. Any suggestions?

Also, is this only happening in this one game, or does it happen in any game?

2.8 GHZ, 1 gig of ram, And I don't know whether its just this game. I'm thinkin it is either a game scratch (but it is brand new) or some kinda virus that closes applications. Any thing else?

A couple of things could cause this: Overheating? Check temps. Did you install the included drivers or updated the ones you had? If not, remove the old ones first, use a driver cleaner and get the latest drivers from the website of the manufacturer. Did you insert the card good? If not sure, reseat the card.

I have checked the temps, and they all seemed pretty normal. That was what I thought of at first. I'm not sure about those old drivers though. I'm pretty sure I deleted them. Can you suggest a good driver cleaner? And I'll see if I can get the drivers from Nvidia's website. The card is in place well.

You can remove any remains of the driver install with an application that you can find here: http://www.drivercleaner.net

So I used the driver cleaner and removed the old drivers and reinstalled the drivers for my new graphics card, and I still am having the same problem. Before it goes black it says "Medieval II:Total War has encountered an unspecific error and needs to close" and then I have to press escape to close the black window. What in the world could cause this? I have the updated drivers for the card (Geforce 7600GT AGP) and have all old drivers removed. Could it be from the onboard graphics card?

It would be really helpful if you could test other games with this. At this point we have no way of knowing if this is just a potential glitch with that one game, or if it a problem with your card or your system in general.

Your power supply might not be good enough to handle the card. What's type and wattage is it?

Definitely could be the PSU...also, try updating to the latest patch of that game.
