GTX 770 vs GTX 780, vs 780 ti

So I'm a little behind with hardware now. I'm content with my CPU, and ram, and everything else in my computer. However, my GPU I think is a little outdated. Still running at GTX 570. With that being said, there is a little confusion with the new bunch of GTX GPU's that hit the market.

Obvious, the 770 is the lesser card of the three. However, it has 4GB of ram onboard, as to where each other card only has 3. Anyone know why that is? Also, is that to say a fully modded Crysis, with tons of texture mods, etc, etc would run better on the 770, as opposed to the 780 ti for example?

I really want to get the 780 ti, if I do decide to update because I've never really had that "Top of the line" card.

With that being said, I know the 700 series came out around May of this year. Are we to expect the 800 series to come out anytime soon, which would invalidate my update to the 780 ti? I know next gen consoles just came out, so surely a "next-gen" card is to come out soon?

the fact that you asked the question means you don't need more than 3GB or else you'd be a hardcore enthusiast slamming 3 GPU setups in the membrane. A 780t should last you for a while but might as well wait for Maxwell. Are games giving you issues right now?

The GTX 570 is a decent card so I would wait

Next generation dev kits/engines havn't even kicked in yet and by the time they do Maxwell won't be far off (GTX 800 Maxwell is rumored for Q3 2014).

If not an enthusiast then I wouldn't throw $500+ at this time (A combination of next gen engines haven't kicked in yet + Maxwell isn't super far off).

Exactly.

Wait or not to wait as other people here said, you'll need to upgrade probably everything not only the GPU otherwise you'll get bottenecked.

@PredatorRules: I wouldn't say I'm an "Enthusiast", but I do enjoy being able to max games out. Hell, I can't even max out COD: Ghosts now. Everything has to be on high\medium, which thralls me. But, since Maxwell will be coming out Q3 2014, I might as just get a 770, which should be more than capable of maxing out games like Crysis 3, COD: Ghosts, BF4?

If you had a 600 series card I would tell you to wait. But since you have a 500 series I don't think it's a bad idea to nab a 780 ti right now. And even with the 800 series releasing, nothing will invalidate the 780 ti. That thing is a beast and I don't see that changing.

A single 770 doesn't have enough bandwidth to fully utilize 4GB RAM. 780 or 780Ti. It's not like they become obsolete within a year either.
