I can't decide between the two... I am either choosing between a $3,000 PC that I'll build with the help of some friends or a nice $3,000 MacBook Pro 17 incher. I don't really game but, I do play WoW and Warcraft 3 a lot.

The reason why I'm spending so much is because I'm planning to keep this computer for another three years or so. I actually want a MacBook Pro because I'm always moving around but, I just want to see your oppinions on this.

Thanks!

i would say the pc, because even if you dont need the eye candy, a powerful pc can do a lot more stuff, plus its easier to upgrade than a notebook,

You don't need a $3000 PC for WoW,$1000 will do and build a PC,macs are a waste of hard-earned cash, there are programs that can play WoW on linux so you don't have to deal with the sh*ttiness of windows...

Why you guys urging him to buy something that he won't use to its full potential? He said he doesn't game except WoW and WC3. Since you're always moving around, a laptop is your obvious choice...not sure about MacBook Pro though since I've never used one.

So, if you don't really game a whole lot, you've gotta look at why you're buying a computer in the first place.

Are you going to be using it primarily at home, with no need to take it around with you? You'd be better off buying a desktop.

Are you in graphics, music composition/recording, photography, DVD making? Of course you want a Mac. Haters aside, the Macbook Pro is one of the coolest pieces of hardware around right now. Plus, it's at a great buying place right now - the intel CPUs, higher-level GPUs (than other Macs have seen), ability to either run boot camp or simply run windows (with the right software and know-how), and seamless presentation and user-friendliness, it's definitely a great laptop if you're willing to plop down the dollars.

However, if you're just using a laptop for school, the occasional Word file and some internet surfing and emailing, you could get by with a whole lot less.

I honestly don't understand why people have such a hatred for Mac products on here. I'll bet more than half of the haters own and use the crap out of the iPod. Why hate on the computers? I'm guessing it's either because - they're expensive and the haters don't want to spend the money; they're different and the haters are afraid of new things; or some other banal reason... Honestly, they're great systems, and now capable of gaming fairly well. If you're okay with not running Crysis or other DX10/Vista games, a Mac will suit you well.

well..macs arent totally useless, they have some nice aesthetics and garageband and imovie are great programs that have no equal for windows...but one cant say macs are better, because a few good programs do not justify the higher price tag and the just about monopoly over the OS market by microsoft...but i hate microsoft just as much as i think macs are a bad deal...>.

Macs are cool, but their hardware is WAAAAAAAAAAAY overpriced. I don't even see how they can justify charging $3000 for an e6400, 2GB ram, and a 7600gt. If you configure the tower Mac, it costs like $575 to upgrade from 2GB ram to 3GB. >_

QFTx100 don't listen to the people that are yelling "ZOMG OZMGOZMGOZMGZOGZGMOZGZMGZO CUSTOM COMPUTER" don't, if you're going to be traveling a lot....buy the mac pro book my father bought himself one and I rofl'd in RL pretty badly cause Apples are sh*tty, but I was actually surprised at the performance of it! It does have it's downsides though, like it overheats frequently. To the people saying Custom Computers: he's a traveling person, he only plays WoW and Wo3 why would you build a 3000 dollar computer if he is not even a real big gamer?

Alienware are horridly over priced, which isn't very surprising as Dell is its parent compnay.

First off, you're asking Gamespot about this, which is filled with a bunch of idiots that are total slaves to their Wintendo **** Secondly, if you need the portability, the notebook is the way to go. My only real objection with the MBP is that I personally think the X1600 is underpowered to begin with; however, the mobility X1600 in the MBP should be more than enough to handle WoW and Warcraft 3 at its native resolution along with most of the eye candy turned on. Third, at least with the intel Macs now, you can dual-boot and have Windows if you absolutely need to run a windows game, since so far none of the vpc-like programs (VirtualPC, VMWare, Parallels desktop) will support 3d acceleration for the guest OS.

The 7300GT is the *BASE* GPU available in the 24" iMac. That 24"er can be upgraded to a 7600GT. Mid-range iMacs and the MacBook Pro (higher-end) lines have the Mobility Radeon X1600.

Congratulations. :) How much RAM are you going to stick in that puppy? OS X is probably the one OS that most linearly improves with stuffing as much physical RAM in the system as possible; just something to keep in mind. :)

Ok he is willing to spend $3,000 on mac or PC. I say go for the mac,  because you can just put windows on it anyway, and of course like everyone says the Video card is underpowered, but not for the games you wanna play they will run amaizingly fine, but i also say you could get a better bang for the buck, like the DX10 cards coming out and also very nice proccessors. So i guess this didnt help but, for portability go for the mac

About as much as you love sucking up to Intel (traitor) and eVGA.
