My friend was thinking about buying a graphic card so I offered to sell him mine, an HD 7750 (1 GB GDDR5).

I was thinking of upgrading to a GTX 750 TI 2 GB GDDR5 GPU. Is this a good idea or should I just wait for the 8xx series to come out?

In case you were wondering, my rig has an FX 4100 3.6 GHz BE, 4 GB DDR3 @ 1600 Mhz G.Skill RipJawsX and a 550W Seasonic PSU. I also game at a lame resolution of 720p (yeah... but I have become accustomed to it) because I'm too cheap to buy a new monitor and because I'm scared that I have to upgrade the rest of my rig so that I can game properly at 1080p.

A GTX 750ti would be a good upgrade from a 7750, its 2x faster. But if you could you can get a GTX 760 and it would be fine with what you have and would be 3x faster then 7750

As much as I'd love to have a 760, it's sadly about Rs. 7000 more than the GTX 750. And it requires a 600W PSU. So, GTX 750 it is.

Another question : should I upgrade to 8 GB RAM? Most games are coming out with specs that say they require 6+ GB RAM which I suppose is bullshit, but I don't wanna take a risk - a lot of the games now are horribly optimized. Would an upgrade to RAM supplement the GPU upgrade and help me to steamroll past shitty optimization?

You should def. upgrade the ram. They are bread and butter as I would like to call it. You don't need it to be fast or abundant, but ENOUGH. Games would run smoother, I can almost guarantee your system is page filing or leeching off your hard drive for memory which slows everything down.

Upgrade RAM to 8Gb and get the 750Ti or R7 265

Hello.

You said that you got a Seasonic 550w PSU. If your PSU has 2x 6pins PCI-e molex (I found 4 Seasonic 550watt PSU's and all of them had at least 2x 6pin, SeaSonic G Series SSR-550RM, SeaSonic S12 Energy Plus SS-550HT, SeaSonic S12G S12G-550, SeaSonic SSP-550RT), it would run the 760 for sure. Hell, it could run 2 760's if you had a lower consumption CPU :P.

So if 760's price difference with 750ti isn't a problem, don't worry about your PSU. Seasonic is one of the best brands in the world for the PSU's.

This is total system power consumption. You should need about the same if you go for GTX 760 too.

Just go for the GPU which you can afford :).

ps. For 1280 x 720 even 750ti would be like TITAN in 1920 x 1080.

So if you don't plan to upgrade your monitor soon, go for 750ti.

Thanks for all the great replies :)

I'm gonna upgrade the GPU first (to a GTX 750 TI because I don't have enough money for anything higher) and then followup with an upgrade to RAM.

Thanks again.
