GPU and Mobo upgrade question

So I am planning on upgrading my mobo and gpu, I will worry about the cpu later. I am on a budget and just would like to play games on high settings. I am upgrading from a Radeon 6850. Should I go ahead and pull the trigger?? Anything else I should know before I do?? would appreciate any help.

You're using AMD MOBO, probably because you have AMD CPU, it wouldn't be smart to go with brand new MOBO without a proper CPU, Intel CPUs start from 150$ i3 up to 250$ i5 and even i7 at 350$

Now unless you have Intel CPU or plan to buy one, just know that your current CPU wouldn't fit on that brand new MOBO,

GPU wise, your current MOBO will not make any compatibility issues with any GPU.

Yes, unless your MOBO have AGP slot which is not seen anywhere for years., from what I've checked on google via MSI site you have PCIe 2.0 slot.

You can look it for yourself on the MOBO itself it should be written on the GPU slot, but you've said you're upgrading from 6850 which I believe they didn't release AGP version for that gen of cards.

I'd go with either R9 280 or GTX760, priority on the 760 IMO Nvidia GPUs run cooler, constume less power and got PhysX, but if you manage to get that R9 280 really cheap compared to 760 go ahead.

One laaast question, my cpu is a AMD Athlon II X4 630 do you think if I were to get the r9 280 or gtx760 that I will be bottlenecked?? I am not looking for a huge leap in performance because I can already run most games on high settings. But do you think I will be able to get away with keeping my current cpu at least until I can upgrade it later??

That Athlon 2 will hold back both the 280 and 760's full potential. However even with that in mind coming from that 6850 you will see good gains with some games and others very little. A few months ago I was running an Phenom 2 x4 955 @ 3.6 ghz with a gtx 760. Decided you upgrade to an i5 and in multiple games my minimum fps doubled if not abit more and averages were higher with being much more consistent. If you decide you do a gpu upgrade make sure your power supply is up to the task in running those gpus.

Like @04dcarraher already said, it'll bottleneck the GPU, but you'll gain more boost from a new GPU rather than new CPU.

I can recommend on i3 or i5 as CPUs unless you get some sweet deal on FX8350.

So i went ahead and purchased this MSI R9 280X GAMING 3G PCI Express 3.0 HDCP AMD Radeon CrossFireX Video Card. I have no idea how to install a gpu or even remove one can anyone point me in the right direction where I can learn thanks.

It's the easiest component to install. Unscrew one screw, flip a switch, pull it out. Put a new GPU in, screw in the screw and you're good (just get the drivers).

Don't forget the dvi. Yanked it couple times before without looking smh.

He should just watch a youtube video. It's extremely simple. If you can't even do that then don't even get near computers.
