They're good for a budget build.

That's a nice build for $850 however spending just 50-60 more like 6-7% from the total price, you can use a GTX970 for a 40-45% more performance.

Not to mention that a great deal is the Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 4GB WINDFORCE which at $255 costs $10 less than the inferior R9 280X. It gives also around 30% more performance.

ps: Stay away from R9 280X atm. R9 290 and GTX970 are too close in price while the offer huge performance jump.

GTX 970 is the new GPU from Nvidia using the Nvidia's next gen architecture with the code name Maxwell.

Its the first GPU along with GTX980 that will fully support DirectX12.

Apart from the low power consumption, less heat and noise, GTX970 also offers incredible performance for just $330.

At the image on the left you can see the performance difference between all GPUs at the moment compared to EVGA's GTX970 performance.

It's all good but with Nvidia dropped priced right now so I'd won't make any mistakes and replace the GPU into GTX770 (less heat, Physx, overall 10% better performance for the same price)

Its all good except for the GPU... At that price.

R9 280X for $260?!...

  • GTX 770 twin frozr is $237 - $23 cheaper but performs 5-10% better
  • R9 290 twin frozr is $250 - $10 cheaper and performs 10-15% better

I would go with the R9 290 for $250... $80 more would get you a GTX 970 which is 20-25% better.

Woh, didn't know R9 290 is dropped in price as well, I'd pick that over the GTX770.
