You could very easily run Battlefield 2. I also know that Counter-Strike, HalfLife 2 and other source games could handle quite well. Both the games I listed can be found for $30 and under at electronics stores.

Try counter strike 1.6 and also Halo CE.

go buy a 7600GT for 50$ or less. Or some new card for extremely cheap, you will see a ... well i cant even use a ratio on this one the difference would be like night and day. Spend that FPS money on a simple GPU and run almost every game out other than crysis.

There is a ton of 'good old FPS' games out there. It depends how far back you want to go...

You can grab Doom, Doom 2, Heretic and Hexen dirt cheap and run them all through Doomsday which improves the look of the graphics.

Then there are other 'old' shooters like these:

Duke Nukem 3D
Blood
Rise Of The Triad
Star Wars: Dark Forces
Outlaws

Then you get into the full 3D engine games:

Quake 1, 2 & 3
Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 + Mysteries Of The Sith
Half Life + Opposing Force
Unreal + Return To Na Pali
Requiem: Avenging Angel
Unreal Tournament (1999)
Wheel Of Time
Deus Ex
Unreal Tournament 2003
Unreal II: The Awakening
Soldier Of Fortune
Soldier Of Fortune 2: Double Helix
Aliens v Predator
Aliens v Predator 2
The Operative: No One Lives Forever
No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy In H.A.R.M.s Way
Return To Castle Wolfenstein
Red Faction
Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force
Star Trek: Elite Force 2
Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
Clive Barker's Undying
Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault + Spearhead
Call Of Duty + United Offensive
Tron 2.0
Far Cry (the first one but make sure it's patched)
Chronicles Of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (may run on low settings)

Some other decent FPS:

Chaser
Chrome
Mace Griffin: Bounty Hunter

If you want to try some tactical shooters, these are good:

Ghost Recon (original) + Island Thunder + Desert Siege
Rainbow Six
Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear + Urban Ops + Black Thorn
Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield + Athena Sword
Operation Flashpoint + expansions
SWAT 4 + Stetchkov Syndicate

So...there's a lot of FPS gaming goodness out there for you to sink your teeth into, but your mileage may vary.

Buy the Orange Box. It's the best PC game deal ever (if you like Half-Life 2 + Episode 1 and 2, Team Fortress 2, and Portal).

All of the games are just absolutely fantastic, and you can pick it up for $40 I believe.

I doubt that my laptop can run those old games. I can't play a lot of old games because its resolution. :(

I've played most of those on a laptop that has 1440x900 native resolution. Just change the res settings in the game to 1024x768 and they should run without a problem. You can also run some in windowed mode if necessary (ie, not full screen).

For older DOS games you can use DOSBox. Download some demos and try them out if you're not sure.
