The original game wasn't that great but with ROS the game is quite good. I've put in a couple hundred hours on the game so to me it's definitely work picking up.
Population won't be an issue, you don't have to search for groups the game will automatically group you and it's very quick at doing so.
Yes after the expansion the game became very good. Great combat and fun loot. Soon they will release a major content patch with seasons aka ladder and more.
After they got rid of the AH and started pouring in more content and player focused changes the game became what it should have been. Its fun, its interesting, and its worth it now. I want to get RoS myself. Waiting for a $20 deal or something. I paid full for D3 so lol Im not getting RoS til its a price I like. They dont deserve more.
