When I turn on my computer it says floppy disk failed (40). What does it mean and how do I fix it?

I have no idea what it means, but maybe your computer is telling you that it's time to throw out the floppy drive.

Is there anything in the drive when you start up? Sounds like it's reading something inside the drive that isn't a valid boot disk.

Sorry, I didn't know this was general hardware discussion. Nevermind I will re-post in there.
