So far I've been able to mostly max out all the games I've played, but looks like Far Cry 4 is putting my PC to shame.

I tried running it on NVIDIA mode (higher than ULTRA?) and it was playable but I could tell it was struggling.

I finished up putting all options to HIGH and turning off AF and Motion Blur and I have a steady framerate now.

Anyone able to run it on NVIDIA (or ULTRA) and keep a smooth gameplay going? if so, at what specs?

Do I have a bottleneck now somewhere? I just built this PC a year ago.

I don't think so in this case. Lots of comments on the net about the game running smoothly. I was just wondering a what specs.

My friend with a GTX 770 (2GB) runs it on mostly high (a little bit of ultra) and it's been running smooth for him.
I run it on ultra but I have two ATI cards.

Cool, thanks for the info.

Looks like the 600 series cards are starting to show a bit of age on next-gen PC games now.

watched totalbiscuit's pc dipping below 60 on max with it, and to this day FC3 is similar. Ubi really doesnt care to help performance

I rarely care what that guy says, he's too negative.

FC3 ran on max smoothly for me all the way through.

Most Ubisoft games run fine for me, but they do need patching so it's not recommended to play them at launch. Far Cry 4 looks great and runs great, but I guess you need the horsepower behind it.

This guy seems to run it fine on max: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAYdJ3-yQNo

that makes a difference with an i7 5000 series and two 980s dipping and skipping frames better, how exactly? He's negative because he cares for quality.

Nah he's negative cause he's negative, simple.

I prefer to hear people's opinions on these forums and from friends before him.

And if he's playing it around 60fps then that's smooth. The problem might be SLI, most games have trouble with SLI. The guy I posted on the video was around the 70-80fps mark with a single GPU I believe.

it was dipping into the 40s.....the game doesnt even look amazing, its full of muddy textures and skips a lot. Why people give ubisoft money is totally beyond my comprehension when they repeatedly show they dont care

Game doesn't look amazing? Mkay. Do you even own the game? (of course you don't).

I still respect Ubisoft. They push the tech forward (with a bit too many problems sometimes though) and they release PC games close to their console counterparts.

Runs fine for me. Still not going to bother putting time into it - it's as crappy as a PC port can get. If they fix some of the glaring issues I might consider playing it. If I can ever make it through that intro again.

I run the game on Ultra with SMAA. I turned off god rays because the colors were too washed out. My framerates in one area may be lower or higher depending on the amount of detail. But, they're steady and do not fluctuate wildly. When the framerates are lower, they remain lower and vice versa. No stutters either. Heck. I'm on the homestretch of the SP campaign. I'd be finished by now if I have more time to play.

CPU load didn't seem too bad when I tested Far Cry 4 windowed very early in the game. I never had one core spiking to 100% although a seventh core showed some activity during fast movement (vehicles).

Loading Video...

This video is of a fellow System Warrior running the game at higher settings, a higher resolution and better performance than TotalBiscuit claims while using a LOWER spec PC.

I also play the game at 1440p and have far better performance than TotalBiscuit claims at 1080p. I have a 5960X and sli Titan Blacks while his rig runs a 5930K and sli 980's.

Something seems fishy here...........

It stutters for me: gtx 760 oc, i7 860 3ghz, 8gb ram. Yes not the best cpu / ram speed, but other similiar looking games run way better and it doesn't matter if I turn the settings all the way down, the difference is minor. It stutters mostly while driving or flying, its smooth when on foot. Still playable tho, but a shame they can't put more effort into optimizing...

I was watching my mate play it the other day and the game just stutters all the time especially while flying. He has a 4770k and GTX780. He said turning the texture quality to medium pretty much eliminates all stuttering issues.

Runs fine with dual 970s, but I get a bad ghosting effect. Waiting for some kind of update (either game or drivers) before I resume playing.

I am running max settings (No motion blur or AA) 1440p and it seems to keep around 70-90 fps. However, the game runs like shit. It hitches when loading in Ultra textures for new areas and has mouse stutter/acceleration issues.

To be fair this game runs light years better than watchdogs and ac:u for me. A bit stuttery and glitchy, but very playable.

This is my main problem. No matter how good your PC setup is, the game is going to stutter because it's literally built into the mouse control. If you pan across the screen quickly, it's fine. But even if I'm getting a consistent 60+ FPS, if I pan slowly, it stutters non-stop, because of weird ass form of mouse acceleration they integrated into the game. Once that, and the lack of aspect ratio options are fixed (you know, so people with 16:10, 21:9, and 4:3 monitors can play fullscreen too), then I might consider giving it a run.

I saw there is an option to change aspect ratio settings.

I didn't try it or anything cause I normally leave it on auto.

Well, your 680 is actually in between 760 and 770; the 770 is only slightly better.

Time to upgrade to 290 or 970.

Running a i7 3770k base clocked, 16gb rams, a gtx 770 4gb at 1.18ghz and running it off an ssd and am playing at very high and getting a solid 40 something frames. Nvidia works but it runs close to 30 and has an odd stutter that is less pronounced at lower settings.

It's odd on mine. you'd think Nvidia Setting would work good on my MSI 4gb GTX 770. But, nope. I get framerates mostly in the upper 20's. But, set details to Ultra, SSBC, SMAA, and I get framerates in the 40's. The beginning of the game seemed to have had the lowest average framerates because I saw a lot of 30's in the area surrounding Banapur. Once I got farther along in the game, framerates started going up to the 40's and 50's. Either way, I saw none of the stutter that plagued Far Cry 3 in DX9 soon after release.

During the first two weeks Far Cry 3 was out, the game stuttered badly on my PC (GTX 560 Ti with Phenom II X3 720) whenever I used DX9. With DX11, I got framerates in the mid 30's (High) with no stutter. With DX9, I got framerates in the mid-upper 40's, but it stuttered bad. Every time Ubisoft put out a patch. Far Cry 3 would let me know by crashing to the desktop. It never crashed any other time.

I think the crashes stopped in the 3-week mark. But, the stutter in DX9 continued well after I finished the game. It only disappeared last year after I replaced the Phenom II X3.
