This video has me sold on the effects they're trying to present, unlike the Unity videos, where I couldn't tell which screen was supposed to be better. Are these effects available for AMD cards or exclusively Nvidia?

Most likely because of lack of drivers for AMD, its a Nvidia orientated game , But fact is that 290x at 1080 is on average only 20% faster then a 680.

Things like TXAA will not work on AMD cards, Some told you to get a GTX 970 instead of a 290 :)

I barely meet the recommended specs. Well GPU wise, CPU wise I have a bit to go on.

290/290X are good cards, don't worry! A lot of the times I disable crossfire and run one 290 @ 1440P without any problems. You'll be fine for a while.

OK, maybe I'm exaggerating a little lol.

Didn't Far Cry 3 have issues when it first came out? Stuttering I think.

+1.

Both companies need to stop this.

After the exclusives on consles, now we have the exclusives on which GPU maker will have the first driver to work better with a game -.-...

I'm sure you're right. I looked at a ton of benchmarks and the difference is very minimal...like 5 fps in a lot of cases. One game had like 12 fps lead...don't remember the game off the top of my head but 5 - 10 fps isn't going to make or break anything for me.

This game looks sick. Getting it for free with my launch-purchased 980GTX. Looks twice as good as Unity or The Crew, so it was a no brainer.
