E4300 Allendale or E6420???

Which is a better buy??? i plan on OCing the CPU for a new gaming rig and even though the E4300 has a lower FSB and 9x multiplier,it needs to be OCed very high to surpass the X6800,while the E6420 doesn't need to be OCed as high to surpass the X6800.

E4300:2MB L2 cache,800 FSB,1.8GHz,9x multiplier.

E6420:4MB L2 cache,1066FSB,2.13GHz,8x multiplier.

Lower multipliers give the advantage of being able to get a higher FSB and lower temps, but at the same time, higher multiplier makes higher OC's easier while having higher temps.

Anyone???

I voted e6420. Mostly because it's a better cpu and I'm not a big overclocker. If you are, the E4300 will be a more rewarding purchase..

So did I, I voted E6420 as well, the higher and better tech you get now, the better and higher OC'ing you will be able to do. It doesn't count all the time, but of the time, this works fine.

just a quik question... are these quad core CPU s ?

its clear the e6420 is best since i know a 14 year old wont oc that much

I'm actually 15 now and i want to do hardcore OCing.

haha tryin to flame arent u? lol i know the moment u loosse ur cool mods wont even hesitate to ban u  but yea aaron both are good the cache wont provide more than a 1-8% performance diff, and it doesnt matter when ur gonna oc, but i still say e6420
#17 Posted by Nonam3gamer (880 posts) -
Well, they both overclock about the same (the E6420 might get like 100-200 mhz higher under the same cooling conditions) but as the E6420 has a lower multiplyer, it would perform better even if they were the same clock speed because the higher FSB.

well we know the e6420 is the better choice, but aaron y dont u go 3600x2 for now and just upgrade to barcelona? amd said its 40% faster than clovertown and even intel sayd it, and clovertown is the server version of kentsfield so going c2d now is a dead wish knowing barcelona will work with am2 and a 3600x2 since u said u want to oc can oc on a dime to 2.6-3.5ghz from the people over @ hardforums got em to

The extra cache will surely help future games so i'll go with the E6420.

Do you have any links to X2 OC's and intel saying barcelona outperforming clovertown??? Btw,how much of a performance increase do you get with that X2 3800 OCed to 3.2GHz???

Alrighty then. Have fun with that.

Anyway, to get on topic (whoops), I'd go with the E6420. The cache is larger, and you can probably overclock it slightly more than the e4300. Both are good choices, though.

yea, i was stable @ 2.8ghz @ 1.55V. and i just messed around and went to 3.4ghz @ 1.75V and it was stable for 10 hours and i went to 3.2ghz @ 1.65V and its stable for 21:12 hours, to me thats stable and i went from scoreing around 2123 @ 2.8ghz to 2342 @ 3.2ghz. so yea this is my temp rig til i upgrade to barcelona x2

keep in mind my 3800x2 is the best stepping u can get for a 3800x2 and does 3.9ghz @ 1.8V with a vapochill :(, but yea i doubt many x2's or c2d can do +.7ghz without any V changes :)

well many from other ocing forums, have gotten it to 2.4-3.0ghz, and u need more than a decent am2 mobo to oc anything being from intel or amd

Usually means a lower multiplier...
1333fsb /4 = 333.25mhz
2000/333.25 = 6

But don't worry the E6420 and E6320 are the same as their Conroe counterparts but with 4mb of L2.
