Does the new dragon age require you play the original two?

I played a lot of the first one a long time ago, but I never finished it, and I heard the second game was awful. can i just jump into the new game as is, or will I not have any idea whats going on?

No it does not..Youl enjoy the story if you have not played 1 an 2..They will talk you through the whole game..WITH OUT having to play the previous games..Wow love some guys answer's..Just buy an enjoy..
