Dell, being the amazing customer service they are, have offered to replace my failing U2711 with two of the comparable monitors they have available.

U2713H: http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=au&cs=audhs1&l=en&sku=210-41287

U2715H: http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=au&cs=audhs1&l=en&sku=210-AEBM

The price difference is non-existent since both products are being offered for free as replacement.

I tend to use my computer for a range of activities, including gaming, movies, but also colour-critical work. However, this time around I'm contemplating simply prioritising this monitor for the former, as I plan to get a 4K monitor for colour-critical work in the foreseeable future.

The biggest difference between the two is probably that U2713H has wide gamut, which is essential for colour critical work but absolutely terrible for most games and consumer media, unless there is a good colour management system built into the monitor? I obviously won't experience the same issue with U2715H, but it pretty much automatically fails colour-critical work due to its standard gamut.

U2713H also has built-in SD/mini-SD reader, which will be convenient but not essential, as I already have a couple adapter kits. Since it's also a slightly more expensive monitor, I suppose it may expect a higher resale value later on, but it may also have a smaller number of interested buyers due to its wide gamut.

Define color critical work? Unless you are doing photography and printing photos on photo paper, this is usually not essential.

The monitors are virutally identical in nearly all specs except for the color gamut, so I would recommend getting the one with the 2713H. This will also be closer to the color range you have on the monitor you are replacing.

WHAT? "amazing customer service"?

Are you kidding me? They were the worst I have EVER had to deal with....EVER!

Took me about 8 phone calls and sitting on the phone for almost 2 hours the last time. Then they never sent the box to return my monitor like they said they would. Then after a month of waiting for the box I emailed the rep I had been dealing with and said "never mind I'm worried I'll never get my monitor back"...they never replied.

Then another month goes by and a new monitor showed up at my house...brand new. Clearly they are incredible unorganized and while I'm happy I got a new one (and still have my old one) and it being a great monitor, I will never ever buy another Dell monitor. Or really anything from Dell....ever again.

Dell = proof that outsourcing is a terrible idea. Blew my mind that I live in Texas, Austin is where Dell based and I was dealing with reps from somewhere in the middle east.

By the way I'm using U2713HM and love it. Now I have 2 of them and one has some really small white spots on the bottom of the screen that only show on a white background. Very minor issue really.

Now all that said they are great quality monitors for the most part.

I live in New Zealand, so perhaps their ANZ branch of customer service is better. Every time I had an issue (even fairly minor ones), all I had to do was send a single email with complete information and they immediately send a replacement with no question asked.

Many other monitor manufacturers (e.g. ASUS, Sony etc. from my experience) would actually require me to return the faulty monitor first, and then they spend a week testing it, before deciding whether or not to send a replacement. Compared to that Dell is literally the best customer service I've ever seen, since I don't have to wait for a replacement without a monitor always available.

Figures....better service in a different country than in their own.

They expected me to return the monitor in a box (that they never shipped) then said it would be two or three weeks before I would get it back.

I had to have proof of purchase and provide several different numbers off of the back of the monitor. Then there was a process and waiting period where they had to confirm the proof of purchase before they would send the box. After not getting the box...ever, I decided to tell them to forget the whole thing. I was afraid I would never see it again.

Well, I just got my U2715H, and it is quite amazing.

I had my doubts about paying 1k for a monitor 3 years ago, now that I'm nearing the end of my warranty, I have effectively got myself 2.5k's worth of monitors (original U2711, replacement U2711, replacement U2715H). Next time I'm getting a Dell monitor, I'm definitely buying as many years of extended warranty as I can. It's simply too worthwhile to pass up.

@GhoX: Hey, I am having the same story with dell. I had the U2711 and now I have the option between U2713h and U2715h. Do you still recommend getting U2715h over the U2713h? I use the monitor for everything include gaming.

Why did you go with U2715h over U2713H, although U2713h is more expensive?
