Just need something to play CS:GO at the moment. This is only going to run linux at first. I plan to later buy an SSD and add windows. Planning to overclock the G3258.

Edit: the blacklines disappeared lol. Updated the URL.

Hydro Cooling is a little too much when the stock cooling can go this CPU up to 4GHz. A Coolermaster 212 EVO for $30 can do the job.

Around $100 case? :O I think this is a little too much too. I think you can find a lot of cases that will do the job with $50.

Also you picked a 500 watt PSU in a 150watt (without o/c) system. I think that a Corsair CX430 can save you an other $10-20.

Overall I think you can save around $100...

Somewhere I was told the G3258 will overclock on a H97, and that I just needed an updated BIOS.

The case, I don't believe I have much space for a tower. So I need to use matx or mini-itx. I was looking at the N200, but even that seemed too big. This thing is going to be moving. Can't go without an optical too.

Well usually you need Z97 like ASRock Z97M-ITX/AC, but Intel allowed some other mobos to o/c as well. I need to search a little bit more.

So if you need the space so much, EVO might not be an option. But if you need a hydro cooling and H97 or Z97 mobo better go with an i3/i5 with stock cooling and MSI H81I. It will be much faster...

I'm sorry to say to you but this build is sh^t. (that's my critic review anyway, sorry to say that too harsh but the budget was totally missplaced)

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/9GvLbv this is my build < enjoy

EDIT: since you have no space and you somewhat can't go without an optical http://pcpartpicker.com/p/6FwMyc this is the updated edit

Great build for under $1000 http://pcpartpicker.com/p/tLqLbv

A lesser build but a fair bit cheaper then the previous. Weaker cpu(can be overclocked to beat the 8350), a weaker gpu but one that isn't bad on it's on rights and it's on sale for a decent price, and I dropped the cpu cooler so it would be using the stock till you got a better one for overclocking. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/MmBf23

Edit: Just read the whole thread sorry my builds don't seem to fit your needs. But if you need small and it needs to move why not just get an alienware alpha? I know price\performance isn't the best but they are tiny pc's easy to move like a console and they even function as one if you start it with only a controller attached(though i doubt this would matter as you play cs go).

They start at at $550. link http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-alpha/pd?oc=dkcwa01&model_id=alienware-alpha

It's kind of hard to build your own super small computer. Been looking around for cases and stuff as well as mother boards and not much is out there for the do it yourself set top box like look and size. If you truly need small and portable something like that is your best bet, besides some of the horrible heatbox cubes that asus and others are selling.

Well, first of all, it would help greatly if you told us what kind of games you play.

Honestly, I think you can do better than a 750ti, unless you mainly play less intensive video games.

@Elann2008:

Here is my steam library

http://steamcommunity.com/id/rushking/games/?tab=all

I'm looking forward to Mount&Blade II. Planning to play The Dark Mod, Witcher 2 (don't know if I will like it, didn't enjoy the first), Red Faction Guerrilla . I'm into Red Eclipse, Counter Strike, Build and Shoot. I'm liking Red Orchestra: Ostfront (Why aren't more people playing this?!?). I'm not a big graphics whore.

I liked Tribes Ascend, but that game is dead now. I rage quit FTL after discovering that there was no cloud sync on the Linux version. Lost sooooo much progress. I was about to try Stealth B and I had it unlocked the long way.

Well this was another plan I had. Feel free to critique this one too. I thought this case in the vertical position looks like it would tip easily.

@RushKing: Made some changes to my build, with a cheaper price in mind and with some of the parts from the other builds. Everything I have on mine I looked specifically for note worthy and reliable companies and good product reviews. Except the GPU. Powercolor is hit and miss with products, but from the reviews of this particular model it's not one of their bad batches of cards and it's 50 dollars off right now and $150 for a card like that is a great price. Also this build includes windows.

But if I was building at around the $600 range this is what I would buy.

Total: $644.29

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/6VvwCJ

But for something along the lines of being able to work in the case you picked out I did this.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Jnz8xr

Price is $686 without windows or a cpu cooler. So a bit more expensive but that's do to the increased price of the case, smaller power supply and beefier cpu. You could drop it for an i3 but I really don't recommend that. I went with the i5 because an i3 isn't that future proof, I also went with the 4440s version for it's lower power consumption and heat output as this build only has a stock cpu cooler and the case is on the smaller side. GPU fits so everything should fit in it nice and snug. But ya that's my build for the case you suggested.

You can just go with i5 4440 without heat problems. But if you feel that you need more thermal headroom i5 4440S is nice too.

But the H97 is overkill. This CPU can work without a problem with H81 chipset too. You can earn around $50 from this.

You can also find better 8GB memory sticks with lower price.

Apart from mobo and memory, nice choices especially in the GPU, for $170 its pure steal.

Maybe you could choose a better PSU but I guess this should fit better in the case (I have Silverstone case too and I have liimit on what I can use...).

@Coseniath: Not much in the line of mini itx boards with onboard usb3.0 and wifi in either the h81 or h87 chipsets that showed any decent reviews. So decided for the h97 board, looked to be the most robust feature wise out of the similar priced boards. Ram ya you could switch it for the Mushkin blackline 8gb for less latency but nothing really better for cheaper. The PSU could be it's better gold certified brother but didn't want to hit the $700 mark and again not much choice in the sfx power supplies. Seems every prebuilt computer company wants to build smaller, seems a little harder to do for a average joe as their aren't many options for parts.

If you have a better suggestion for a board let us know. I

Sorry I thought you were the TC :P.

But since you asked about it, MSI has nice H81 mobos. A micro ATX made wonders here:

The Pentium G3258 Cheap Overclocking Experiment: Overclocking The Pentium G3258 Using B81 On A Budget.

MSI has a similar board for miniITX MSI H81I, which for $66 is great. Missing USB3.0 is a problem but this is a budget gaming build so this is not such a big problem.

And about RAM. The RAM you choose is 1600C11.

Here is a list of at least 1600 and C10 that they are lower than $89: Prices start from $69.98 up to $87.99.

Guys I'm not afraid to pull out the G3258 and replace with an i5 if I become dissatisfied in the future. Check out this cheap micro atx motherboard I found. It might not come shipped with haswell refresh support though. I think I have a place to fit the N200. I'm afraid of getting an amd card because of their lacklustre Linux support.

I still don't get why you've picked a simple dual core CPU instead of i3 with hyperthreading or just straight i5.

Its the same they used in the review for o/c the G3258 :).

It seems to be a solid option. Just ask them if the mobo has the lastest (or one haswell refresh ready) bios version and if it doesn't have it, ask them to install it.

This is a better build than your first and for only $595 is a nice setup.

Since you mght upgrade to an i5 in the future, I am not telling you for a better CPU.

Have fun with your new build :)
