Console emulation....Need a new GPU.....?

Hello all. Thanks in advance for any help

I bought a prefab ASUS PC from Bestbuy a couple years back....dont hate, it was simply meant to be used for internet browsing and school work for my better half. She is now getting into console emulation, particularly PS2 (and yes we own the games, just a paperweight for a console). So anyway, I have everything set up software-wise on her machine but games run dreadfully slow even at native reolution and no graphical enhancements using PCSX2. We are not looking to spend too much upgrading if its just more worth it to go out and grab a used PS2. Would simply getting an independent video card help matters the most or is it a CPU issue?

it should be illegal to sell pcs that are that slow

also i suppose it's not fair for me to call pcsx2 or else i would make commits for it to be less terrible

i mean even the interface on pcsx2 is sub par

tc, even if you upgraded to a 3960x(fastest consumer cpu) some games still lag.

pcsx2 doesn't take much advantage of your gpu.

Dolphin does though.

This will probably get locked since it's against the TOU, but anyway:

• Emulation needs a lot of CPU power (yours is too slow)
• It also requires a fair amount of GPU power (yours is too slow)

In your case a new CPU would hlep but it's really not worth it.

Asides from the fact that your setup is way underpowered for pcsx2, its a well known fact that ps2 emulation runs a lot better on intel processors. Graphic card doesn't really matter, as long as its not a integrated card and is 1 gb or more. I used to play pcsx2 on an AMD processor ( 960t 3.8 ghz) and i couldn't even achieve 60 fps in half of the games.

Switched to a 3570k and now everythings runs perfect.

Yeah the computer is garbage, LOL, no doubt. My GF needed a new PC while she was in college just for school work basically, at most is was java based internet gaming or facebook-ware. I actually ran PCSX2 on my own system, which is much better, and certain games played like hell, expecially God of War. I guess I will just go down to our local vintage games dealer and buy a used PS2 for her,or even ebay has them going for like $50. For whatever reason she has become obssesed with playing FFX again and GOW 1&2 and other PS2 discs she has collected throughout the years:roll:
