Shogun 2. Good competetive multiplayer, co-op campaign, great real time battles and strategy. Civ 5 isn't bad, but it doesn't have much over Civ 4 besides combat.

I'll recommend Shogun 2 because Civ 5 is old enough that I imagine they might be thinking about having a Civ 5 complete package, including all of the DLC. Even if not that, by the time the holidays come around, it will probably be old enough to be in a big sale. They are both great looking and also great playing games, so you really couldn't go wrong either way.

Civ V is evil...i have spent many a night sittin in bed with my laptop sayin to myself "just 10 more turns"..."just let me finish this research"..."lemme finish up with conquering this sorry nation"...until about 6 or 7 in the morning and realizing i played the entire standard 500 turn match...its a really good game and they made so many improvements over the previous game...i fell in love with it...its addicting...and its really easy to learn how to play on...and it can be quite a challenge at times...not sure about shogun...but ive never been too keen on the total war frachise...but i did like the demo for shogun 2...but i cant really say much about the game as i dont own it...

Civ V hands down, I never played TW games for what they did, I played strictly the world map since I like TBSs and because of that Civ V is a lot better.

Civ 5 is still working on its major bugs. They are more likely if your PC uses high end hardware. I will w8 for more Civ 5 patches to roll in. I don't own Shogun 2 but I sounds limited in scope. Just Japanese? Awah :(

Total War games aren't exactly known for the amount of strategy they require as much as tactics which is why I love them. Getting Shogun 2 very soon hopefully.

I've played both and i can say....

GET SHOGUN 2!!!!!

Its just unreal the amount of stuff that has gone into that game, the AI is so freaken good, prob the best AI in any strategy game, you will need to use a huge amount of Strategy on the campaign map and a crap load of tactics on the battle map,

The AI is now so good you can have them outnumbered 3:1 and they will be able to beat you or take out most of your army if you dont think about how your going to attack them.

I have not been Impressed by a strategy game since Rome:Total War came out this game is fantastic seriously man GET IT!!

Based on the 10 minuets I played each demo, Shogun.. I hate turn based nonsense, felt so clunky with having to wait for a turn contently.

LOL... shogun 2 has "turned based nonsense"... LOL... Shogun 2 is just a total package of strategy, turn base, RTS elements all in one.

As much as I love the Civ series I have to say Shogun 2. Civ V just has too many bugs. I'm still unable to play a full game due to the game crashing on large maps and sadly I'm not alone in suffering these problems. Civ V still needs some serious patches.

Thnak you. I love Paradox, even more so when they took my idea to make Sardinia-Piedmont formable and put it in the 5.1 beta patch for EU3.

I love their games too, as well as their correspondence with their community. Victoria 2 has one of the deepest economies in any game and all their grand strategy games are utterly spectacular.

I would most certainly recommend Shogun II.

I have Civ V as well, and I think its a really good game. But if you make me choose, I would say Shogun II.

But seriusly, you really want BOTH games, as they are very very good :)

Happy gaming!

Oh man, Vicky 2 is awesome. I just wish the timeline was about 100 years earlier as I would love to play some of the Indian nations before they got absorbed.
