The internal dvd drive on my laptop broke and I don't want to buy an external drive just to play CIV III, is there any way I can play it without the CD? I plan on buying a new laptop this summer (hopefully one powerful enough for CIV IV) so I don't want to spend any $ on my current rig. Thanks

If the producers add a copy protection to the game, it's because they don't want you to play without the cd. So, the answer is no.

If he's too cheap to buy a replacement drive, I think he'll be too cheap to buy it off steam.
