Here's the source. Glad that they are considering SteamOS, not so glad that the reason there has been no Linux support till now is based entirely on a myth.

Yeah right I doubt they'll start decoding the whole game from scratch.
Are you referring to DirectX and OpenGL?
They seem to have a misunderstanding about Linux.
I thought so too. There was a time when one of the GOG employees mentioned that the team would not know which Linux distro to start supporting and listed FreeBSD as one of the distros. What. The. Hell?

Yeah
That's why it's best not to use an API produced and maintained by a single, large corporation that is limited to a platform or two owned by that single, large corporation.

Either they are playing dumb, so they don't have to support linux, or they really have no clue -_-
a good video was linked to in the comments about porting to linux. well worth a watch.
basically use SDL and openGL and stop the messing :P.
The slides to that video are in the article itself as well. At this point people are just shouting "Fire!" where there is none.

Do you even know how computes work?

I do know devs are used to work with DirectX and so far there's no replacement for it
Yeah there is, its called OpenGL.

Oh right, I forgot how many games been released to Linux...
Look I'm not trying to open another system war on what OS is better, but I do know for the time being DirectX dominates the market.

OpenGL is available for every platform, not just linux. But I do believe that if devs just used opengl, it would probably make cross platform support easier, and cheaper. And many devs who have released games for linux say its plenty profitable even now, and easily makes up for the cost of porting to linux. So I've heard.
Good to know . Direct X is major bottleneck , it was designed to make use of 2 cores . Open GL and Mantle on other hand access lower level hardware , that's why I like the idea of Steam OS and AMD mantle . I really hope more developers support Linux .

OpenGL is platform agnostic noob.

What kind of research do you think it is that GOG and CD Projekt RED have done when "distro fragmentation" is still an issue for them, FreeBSD was listed as a Linux distro, they think they would have to support that one guy trying to play games on a Raspberry Pi, and Chrome OS was an operating system they think would need to be supported? They just have to be trolling at this point as no educated person can be that obnoxiously unaware.

Yup. It's sad.
