I bought this doohickey

It allows me to hook up my PS2 to my monitor using an HDMI cable.

This is my monitor

It's a 1080p IPS monitor. I looked through the manual and I don't believe it says it supports 480i. However, when I hooked up the PS2 to HDMI connector I had no problems with displaying my games.

Today, I started noticing these very faint "flickering" lines near the bottom of my monitor. I'm wondering if that's the connector or just a weird coincidence I never noticed before.

Can an interlacing signal damage a HD monitor?

I am certainly no expert on monitors. However, in my experience a 1080p monitor or television generally supports lower resolutions as well.

I would not think a lower resolution would damage the monitor, but at the same time I have no experience with that adapter and therefore know nothing about it.

Does the flickering occur on every input? or just the input for the PS2? It may be possible your just getting weird flickering because of that adapter setup. If it isn't doing it on any other inputs than I would not worry about it.

FWIW, after looking at a few reviews. I am seeing several people saying they are having problems with the display shaking and having "lines". (also, idk what the deal is but some of those reviews seem to be for a mouse and others for the adapter..weird).
