Helping out one of my friends find a laptop for college, she doesn't game so just something lightweight, good for school/web browsing in the $600-$700 range, no going over budget! I'm sure there won't be a need to though.

Honestly if she isn't going to be playing games on it just about any laptop will do, and it doesn't even have to be that high in price unless she cares about aesthetics. I've had this laptop for a good while now, nothing special and can't play high end games, but it gets the job done well and has been quite durable.

Just do some browsing and see what looks good.

If the laptop won't be used for gaming, any laptops will do. It's as simple as that.

If she wants a quality laptop, go for Asus or Sony VA10.

Try to get an AMD APU based one, the battery life is generally better on them.

Don't get toshiba or sony because they make installing drivers a pain in the ass.  There are 2 other vendors that do this but I can't recall who it is.
