Ā

In 2011 I moved to Syria for a year. I trapped myself in a house there and wasĀ experimentingĀ mods the whole year.

Ā Resulting a gigantic fresh Fallout 3 world with several hundred different weapon models, plenty of new quests and the monster spawn increased up to 40.Ā

Ā I'd shoot my rocket launcher at a swarm of Raiders and watch how all the rain of guts and limbs would rain down.

Then I'd spend whole 10 minutes having fun collecting all that loot.Ā It was the most funnestĀ experienceĀ and memory I ever had with any interactive software in my life!!Ā

No game ever could replace all that replayability in exploration and lootingĀ The game crashed rarely and was even more stable If I'd lowered it to 30.Ā

Sadly in 2012 when I came back home to Emirates my computer OS had its registry screwed up and I reinstalled without backing up the data except for this load order note.

So this will now only stay as a memoryĀ

RIP

The game is garbage without mods...

orly?

I went to fallout nexus and looked at the top 100 list.Almost all of them added new weapons/armour or improved textures. Please explain how a few extra guns elevate the game from 'garbage' status.

The game is garbage without mods...it looks and plays like the console version...

rhazzy

Is that sarcasm?

Surely you do not hate the game just because it isn't radically different on the windows platform.

And if that is a genuine complaint, you must hate 99 percent of all games available on PC!

You have no clue about what u are talking about...do you?
I have mods that changes the type of npcs, the monsters, better UI, mods that tweak combat mechanics, mods that changes the economy ingame...above all HD TEXTURES...mods that overhaul weather ingame...mods that add depth to the game...like the need to sleep, eat and drink...and many more.
With that being said...my version of Fallout 3 is a complete different game from Fallout 3 on any console...
About the 99% games available on pc...first of all...on half of them u can disable mouse accelaration...and the game is already a different game. Not to talk about the FOV key remapping etc...and the fact Ā that u can use a freaking mouse...lol!!!
Most of the multiplats that u talk about are playable at 60fps and 1080p on PC...which again...they will look nothing like a console counterpart.Take for example Dark Souls...one of the worst ports of all time...the pc version is still the better version of the game :))))))...look at Dark Souls for 360/PS3 and look at Dark Souls for PC(modded internal resolution)...they are different games!!!

Nice pics and list but I found Fallout3 to be so boring, especially compared to the much better New Vegas.

As someone else said, its almost unplayable without mods

UI doesn't change the gameplay.Same thing can be said about textures and weather mods.

The fallout 3 on your pc may be different but the stuff in bold is BS.Mouse acceleration and resolution do not change the core gameplay.

I also have some radio mods, but no idea what they were called, that's all it really need and the engine is too unstable to force it, tried more mods at first that made it crash excessively, mods that I didn't really need.

I played the vanilla 100% inside out for several times!

I use my imagination for character roles and the environment.

So after I was the daddy's boy and The Brotherhood of Steel's Rambo in the Capital Wasteland's time of rust, low hygiene and unclean biosphere.

I then decided to start up fresh as a scavenger finding out that being employed as a gun merchant by collecting weapons from corpses is the only way to wealth.

Ā In a changing progressed Capital Wasteland where more guns have been exported from places like New Vegas and new ideas of weapon crafting have been discovered.

Wars with Enclave and Brotherhood are ending. The biggest factions are demoralizing into small mercenary and scavenger groups.

All desperate for a new national order with established laws and morals.

I've played Fallout 3 for 4 years! The 2 years were enough of vanilla for me! The same is probably going to be for you. You just haven't ran out of vanilla content yet

Same. I played Fallout 3 on the Xbox 360 when my PC was "down" at the time and I just wanted a game with good playtime. I clocked in well over 30 hours, I'm sure. So to say it's unplayable in vanilla form, "AND" on the PC. Hmmm I doubt that. x)

It's only a console port in terms of Optimization. Rest features are fixable.

Sadly for your argument, you can't fix optimization with a few words, Gamebryo is a bad engine and it didn't do Bethesda any good for any of their games optimization wise, mods can't fix an entire engine, Gamebryo games were, are and still will be broken even with the few fixes communities made, to fix these games you'd need years for each a project as huge, dedicated and lasting as Gothic 3's community patches that fixed the entire game over a lot of years.

My argument? I never said we could fix optimization with a few words. That's ridiculous.Ā lol.gif

That said, while I also know that gamebryo is notoriously unstable I do know for a fact that there is a butt load of good mods out there that fixes the recurring crashes for various setups. Of course I can never promise that it will ever even run for you. But I deem it fixable because I fixed it.

Besides, what do you regard as fixed? If you don't think mods can fix crashes in Fallout you're plain wrong. If you don't think we can fix bugs either, you'd be wrong as well. Unofficial patch is a good start. If it's frames per second that's lagging behind on your end.. well.. Dunno. Perhaps you should invest in a better graphics card. But know this, I do not own a top of the line GPU and I can run FO3 smoothly.

Perhaps FO3 simply isn't for you. But don't tell me the game can't be fixed to be at all enjoyable. It's hyperbole to call it unplayable. Which is why I said it can be fixed in the first place.Ā smile.gif

Did you just reformulate your post 5-6 times while deleting all your posts except the last? and you say you're somehow thinking straight on this matter?

FO 3 was good, NV was good, but they were all trash optimization wise and no, mods were not capable of fixing them, you (general you) just had to get used to random crashes that you won't ever get rid of, vanilla or filled with mods, you don't fix completely broken engines that the company itself doesn't care enough for with just a few fixes, the only one that actually got some support from the community and even that "aid" fell miserably short even with thousands of fixes was Oblivion.

Ā

Try to not change the subject next time, games being fun in content have nothing to do with games running terribly.

Though if you do add a bunch of mods without bearing in mind the load order you can indeed seriously bork up your game. It's a fine line if you do choose to mess with mods. Still, unplayable? No way.. That game is too fun.

DanielDust

Yes I did edit my post a bunch of times. Problem? But I never said I'm thinking straight on the matter. I like to think I do but it's late and I'm just adding my two cents.

I agree they were good. Trash optimization? Perhaps. Fixable? Indeed. Though as I said, I can't promise it will work for you as I've already stated. Poor optimization it may be, but it doesn't stop me from playing without crashes, stable FPS and without any huge game breaking bugs. That, at any rate, is my experience and many others. Try not to change the subject? Which subject? All I'm saying is performance is fixable despite the horrible engine. And didn't you just call me out for reformulating my post? Nice trolling.

And YES, I stand by my point that the optimization in this game is FIXABLE :) (disclaimer: obviously depends on your hardware)

I called you out for changing the subject, which you steered into the direction of "Perhaps FO3 simply isn't for you. But don't tell me the game can't be fixed to be at all enjoyable." AKA a discussion about somehow not enjoying FO3.

Ā

And I think we're beyond these games just being unstable, seeing that with only those few mods that I have on FV, I can't play it for more than 15 minutes without crashing at about 80% in the base game, because my save got to a size that somehow breaks the game even further, that for me shows how much of a bunch of amateurs Bethesda is, a friggin save file breaking a terminally broken game, first there was that bloated save file size that got fixed, but even so the game(s) - FO 3 too - goes to sht when you're later into the game and I'm talking about 5mb saves...not close to when they were bloated like tens of mbs, problems started exactly after it went past 4 mb.

I suppose I did digress there. But did I did not come in here having a firm point except for the fact that performance is fixable and the game is enjoyable. As I said the reason that I simply insinuated that the game wasn't for you is because from my own experience the game is perfectly playable. And I'm sorry you had such a horrible time with the game. I definately hope it hasn't been wasted money on your part, if you bought it.

I'm glad to see PC Elitists are just as hated here as anywhere else.

Fallout 3 is amazing without mods, but with mods it is damn good. I always try to experience some of a game vanilla before diving into mods.

I do the same, when it comes to mods that significantly alter gameplay in any way. With visual mods, if I'm sure I can run them, and I like what I've seen in screenshots, I'll jump right in.Ā

To TC:With all those mods and you didn't change that greenish/yellowish tint that Fallout 3 had? I thought that was the worst thing about Fallout 3. That was my first mod--fixing that god awful tint.

How did I know this was going to turn into a Fallout 3 console vs PC mod. I was actually expecting NV vs Fallout 3 also.Ā  Oh well. The last time I played Fallout 3 I had only about 10 of them forgot what they all were but the most important one was the one that changed my gameplay--something like "project reality" or something like that. Since I moved to Windows 7 my game couldn't run smooth anymore so I stopped playing it. I don't have the steam version but the boxed retail version. I had tried all the crap ini file fix such as the number of cores fix but it just doesn't run smooth. Everytime I go to a town or open a door that sends me to a loading screen it'll take about 2 mins just to load or crash. Vanilla fallout 3 was beast--I played that on my PS3 way before PC. Clocked in at 100+ hours then got the PC version and clocked in another 70+ hours. Good times. Great game.

I played New Vegas once on console, and it was definitely not well optimized at all for any kind of system.

On PC though, the bug fixing mods, combined with various content mods and Project Nevada, made it an amazing new experience.

Still have to say I prefer Fallout 3 to NV.

Hey guys. I just got F3 off of Steam and finally got it up and running (having fixed the dual cores processor issue) and would like to use some mods. But I have no idea what I'm doing really. The only other games I've modded were Silent Hunter IV (using JSGME), and ArmA II for DayZ (using DayZ Installer). Even with Silent Hunter I could barely get ONE to run correctly, much less multiple mods at once without major headaches.

What I'm wondering is, is there some sort of "mega mod" that overhauls visuals, sounds, and the UI all in one so I don't have to hassle with load order or conflicts? If not, what are the best/most compatible to get? And is there a utility to help do this for PC illiterate dopes like me? I have no trouble tinkering around in folders, but am at a loss when problems arise, or in what order I should install mod files.

I've always wished for different weather in F3 and better textures etc. I've gone onto the Nexus site briefly on my phone, and don't know where to begin. I guess what I'm wondering is: best mods and easiest way to us them? Thanks.

Fallout 3 ENB didn't exist in 2011.

Ā

But today Fallout 3's visual curse has been lifted

I'd love some more mods but the game already crashed enough as it is (disabling fellout curbed it a bit) I don't need any more mods to increase the crashes. Right now I only have an HD texture pack, an enb, and a mod that makes the NPCs looks better.

Gamebryo is notoriously unstable and I recommend you use BOSS to automatically setup your load order. I have found that doing it manually is obviously better if you know what you're doing but the first thing to do if you're experiencing crashes after a mod is use BOSS to see what's ticking. It's also useful to learn how to setup a load order.
