Actually If your up to some RPGs, i suggest you play the Dragon Age Series, it is Really Worth your time, it got plenty of lore behind it & story. Otherwise pick up a recent game Metro 2033 & Metro Last Light or Crysis or some RTS game such as Company of Heroes 1 or 2 or Starcraft II.

Mass Effect and Knights of the Old Republic are my favorite games story wise. I've played the crap out of both of those games. Skyrim is also fantastic, especially if you add mods, put a couple hundred hours into that game. Dragon Age has been mentioned. I also really enjoyed Dead Space.. If you haven't played Dead Space it's currently free on Origin so you can pick that up and keep it without paying a penny. The Assassins Creed series and Bioshock are also quite fantastic.

If you can get into skyrim do it and for sure if you willing to take a couple of hours to mod it a little bit. Be warned English voice acting is horrible in all the metro games. Maybe try bioshock infinite? It's kind of a lack luster shooter but it's story/production value are among the best in the industry.

RPGs are obviously your best source of single-player campaign goodness. More than not, RPGs are the last real bastion of developer-focused solo play. Everything the above posters mentioned are excellent choices. Also you might be well served by visiting the Nexus mod site and checking around. Some of those can make a game you've played before an entirely new experience.

I really enjoyed the Crysis series but I think I am in the minority there. I also recommend the Mass Effect series, Metro series, and Bioshock series.

If you like adventure type games then check out The Walking Dead.

Spec Ops: The Line, underrated to the max.
