I'm in the mood for playing a great building game. I'm a big fan of both RTS and TBS. Any suggestions?

Tropico 3 (imo it's better than 4, but 4 has a few extra things that you might like, I believe both have demos)
Settles 7(this one is a mix of all 3, it has some building, some TBS elements and even RTS elements paired with an unique art style -that not everyone seems to like-)
Anno 1404 + Venice (simply excellent)
Anno 2070 (same as Anno 1404, but with e futuristic, cold, theme, it doesn't have an atmosphere as good as Anno 1404, but it feels overall in gameplay and such slightly better than 1404, it all depends on the theme you like most)

I've got Anno (Dawn of Discovry) 1404, I couldn't really get into it. How is tropico 3 for bugs, I've heard bad things

Anno 2070 for all round resources tax and trade. My personal favorite until Sim city 5.

Cities XL 2012 if you are mainly intersted in the landscape of a city.

Tropico 4 is also very fun.

Sim City 4 or Anno series

Pharoah - Old, but awesome game for building ancient Egyptian cities. Get it on GoG.com.

Cossacks: Back to War is my favourite when it comes to base building/upgrading. So many things to research and so many buildings to construct.

Outside of strategies best building game is Minecraft, but that is too obvious already.

Tropico 3 is a stupidly demanding game in terms of graphics. I dont think its optimized particularly well. Tropico 4 is on sale on Steam for $6. Might as well give that a go. I want Anno 2070 myself but $40 for the complete pack is a sh*t ton to pay. At least give us a demo if you're going to float the price so high for so long.

Anno 1404 is the same game and you can find it anywhere for like 5 bucks. For some reason they deleted it from steam. I prefer the age of discovery setting

Tropico 3 runs just as good as 4 and "looks better", 3 has better graphics at least lighting is obvious at first glance.

I've played 2070 (+expansion) for 100+ hours, but in the end I went back to 1404. 2070 has a slightly richer game play due to the energy and eco management, but 1404 Venice has this enormous charm to it. Best citybuilder created yet! imo

Since Im not getting a response on the Sale thread. Is the Anno 2070 pack with all the DLC for $40 worth it?

No, it's not. Get Anno 1404 somewhere with venice expansion for like 5 bucks.

I prefer the old setting also, but Anno2070 has much more depth and better coop then the old ones imo. The new one is the better game minus the setting imo.

Where can you buy Anno 1404 for <$10? The cheapest I have seen it for is ~20.

#26 Posted by 2uneek4u (2548 posts) -

Any of the Anno games will suck the hours out of you!

#27 Posted by mrbojangles25 (31985 posts) -

Tropico 3 or 4...theyre basically the same.

Anno 2070 is my personal favorite, much better than Anno 1404 imo. Though if you didnt like 1404, you problably wont like 2070.

People forget this game but its still one of the better building/business type games. Rollercoaster tycoon 3.

Minecraft and Starcraft 2 are your best bets.

hm... how about some truly casual building games like Megapolis, Romopolis or Ancient Rome? They are quite great, i should say. Actually all of them could be found for free. Besides, I've heard that Ancient Rome 2 is released on bigfishgames
