Anti Aliasing problem

Ok now before you call me a noob i realize that this was a bad choice and i was experimenting, ok so i go into half life2 and i change the setting every things on high but then i go into aa and put it to 6x when it reccomends it being off for my system that isnt my system in my sig thats my summer rig, but any ways now i try to change the settings and whenever i go into it it freezes then i gotta restart my PC same when loading something for Coujnter strike, what can i do to fix this?

anti aliasing puts a huge strain on the system.

I tried that in BF2 and I got a whole bunch of problems

Anti aliasing shouldnt kick in while you are in the game menus, only when you actually start the game. That may be some other sort of problem, especially if Counterstrike is also doing it. I would suggest reinstalling the video drivers.

Also bear in mind that if your other system is using an NVidia Geforce 7 or below you cant render HDR and AA at the same time.

Could it be something in the video card video menu kicking it off?
