As much as I love how strong Intel's lineup is right now, I'll always be an AMD fan. As for graphics, nVidia, no contest.

At this moment in time it has to be Intel and Nvidia. The Intel Core 2 Duos are far and away the best price/performance processors, and Nvidia have the 8800s out now. However, give it a few months and ATI will be pushing hard in the graphics market, although there has been no word on new chip architecture from AMD.

It's a dumb question because everyone's answer should be "what ever is the best bang for the buck at this point in time".

Also your personal budget makes a difference.  Right now I would get an e6600 and a X1950XT because tht is the best bang for MY buck.  And that would be Intel and ATI.  If I had more money I would get an e6800 and 8800GTX and that would be Intel and Nvidia.

I can not see why anyone would buy an AMD CPU right now for any reason.  They are less power for more money than C2D.  And I'm not a fan boy for any of those companies.  As you can see in my sig I have 2 AMD systems and am still smart enough to know there is no reason at all to buy another AMD CPU when C2D is so much better and cheaper.

I agree with "most bang for the buck." Better to have an open mind and find the right part; it's a mistake to get too namebrand-attached. I always used seagate drives, but when I wanted a quiet one switched to the Samsung spinpoint, and I'm glad I did -it's quieter.

The only exception to forgetting brand-loyalty is if there's a real benfit to you, the consumer. For example, I like Crucial memory because aside form the fact they manufacture their RAM in the US themselves (not outsourced), they are very helpful over the phone if there is any problem.

Zalman too, is a good customer support company if you have their phone number -there's no long phone menu and they'll take as long as it takes to solve your issue. However, AMD, Intel, Nvidia, and ATI are large enough that the customer support is more or less equivalent, and therefore I go with the best part for the money at that time.

I'm an Intel and Nvidia fanboy... I think seeing all the Intel commercials (from the Pentium III to C2D ads) has brainwashed me. :|

Nvidia hands down. AMD or Intel? I guess it's just personal preference and budget. The last Intel chip I had was a Pentium 75mhz. Typically AMD chips are always cheaper than the equivalent Intel chip.

Apparently you have not been shopping for a computer for a while.  Compare Core 2 Duo to AMD X2, you will see Intel is faster and cheaper than AMD across the whole line.
