Good news everyone. After a hellish nightmare that AMD experienced last year when they lost 1.18 billion (yes that's over 1 billion dollars, not 200 million, 500 million, or 800 million) AMD finally made a profit of $48 million dollars in their 3rd quarter, thanks to pre-orders of Xbox One and PS4. While $48 million may not seem alot, it's a big deal to AMD which was living through hell over last year and a half. This is good news for all who want's competition in the market and not a world dominated by intel and bad news for intel fanboys who want's AMD to go bankrupt and claims that intel processors are vastly superior to AMD eventhough in gaming benchmarks at 1080P and beyond AMD actually beat's intel or BARELY loses. (See: fullhd1080P.com AMD Advange article), but that's beside the point.

While this is good news AMD is still not out of the woods yet, it still has long ways to go to get sustainable profits. Think of a patient that had a massive heart attack but is still in stable but critical condition. Hopefully, as the current 100+ million Xbox 360 and PS3 owners slowly switch over to the PS4 and Xbox One over the next couple of years and with the release of new AMD R9 Gaming GPU's this fall, which are beating nVida's GPU's, AMD will continue to generate profitabilty and not have to live through the nightmare that it expereinced over the past year and half.

I thought I would never say this but consoles are actually helping AMD survive for the time being at least.

Let's all hope that AMD will use this good news a as a spring board to get back on it's feet.

Let's hope they start to make something of this. Though their insistence on APU's at the expense of dedicated CPU's isn't doing them much favor in my book.

how so? Their APU's are in the next-gen consoles, customized or not.. And the APU's they have for the desktop market are great. I've built many AMD APU builds for business owners, and for clients who use their PC for personal use and they are absolutely fine. If they went dedicated CPU, they would lose to Intel. That would be stupid.

My point being that Intel, while offering iGPU's with pretty much every chipset, still offers the E line still for dedicated CPU's(albeit at a premium).

AMD putting an iGPU which I never intend to use in every single chip, regardless of how cheaper it is, remains of no interest to me. It's a waste of die space for me personally. Like you said, other people can find plenty of use, so overall it's fine for AMD to continue to push it, however I'm speaking on my behalf, not on anyone else's.

Gotcha. Makes sense.

Good! That will keep the competition in the market. I like AMD and would be sad to see them go.

We need AMD to stay alive but that article lacks Haswell and cherrypicks.

Good to hear. I've been using AMD for years simply because they've always been cheaper. I wouldn't want to see Nvidia completely monopolize the market.

AMD FX 8350 still beat's Haswell in certain games. Which is surprising. http://www.anandtech.com/show/6985/choosing-a-gaming-cpu-at-1440p-adding-in-haswell-/5

AMD FX 8350 beating Core i7 4770K.

Wow. Never realized they were were hurting financially. Does make a lot of sense for these "Buy our graphics card and get 6 free games!" Always did seem desperate.

I have an AMD card btw.

AMD FX 8350 beating Core i7 4770K.

4770k also manages to get beaten by an I3.

Also:

Metro 2033 conclusion

A few points are readily apparent from Metro 2033 tests – the more powerful the GPU, the more important the CPU choice is, and that CPU choice does not matter until you get to at least three 7970s. In that case, you want a PCIe 3.0 setup more than anything else.

Good news.

I really think we could do with another major player in the Gpu hardware market.

Only with a GPU bottleneck so they're all within 1fps...

And how many people games with 3 HD 7970's or a GTX 680? My point exactly.

Your highlighted part is pretty much on spot.
