Good news everyone. After a hellish nightmare that AMD experienced last year when they lost 1.18 billion (yes that's over 1 billion dollars, not 200 million, 500 million, or 800 million) AMD finally made a profit of $48 million dollars in their 3rd quarter, thanks to pre-orders of Xbox One and PS4. While $48 million may not seem alot, it's a big deal to AMD which was living through hell over last year and a half. This is good news for all who want's competition in the market and not a world dominated by intel and bad news for intel fanboys who want's AMD to go bankrupt and claims that intel processors are vastly superior to AMD eventhough in gaming benchmarks at 1080P and beyond AMD actually beat's intel or BARELY loses. (See: fullhd1080P.com AMD Advange article), but that's beside the point.
While this is good news AMD is still not out of the woods yet, it still has long ways to go to get sustainable profits. Think of a patient that had a massive heart attack but is still in stable but critical condition. Hopefully, as the current 100+ million Xbox 360 and PS3 owners slowly switch over to the PS4 and Xbox One over the next couple of years and with the release of new AMD R9 Gaming GPU's this fall, which are beating nVida's GPU's, AMD will continue to generate profitabilty and not have to live through the nightmare that it expereinced over the past year and half.
I thought I would never say this but consoles are actually helping AMD survive for the time being at least.
Let's all hope that AMD will use this good news a as a spring board to get back on it's feet.
