Affordable GPU replacement - 660 OC or 7870 OC?

I'm in need of a videocard replacement (made a thread a few days ago) - and have decided to run with a cheap alternative; problem is I'm not sure in the difference between the cards entirely - after doing some looking.

I haven't used an ATI/AMD card since the X800XT, all Nivida since then, but after my GTX 580 dying I'm considering anything; and there's only a $20AUD price difference between these two ($209 Nivida, $229 ATI).

What say you Comp Hardware folks?

7870OC is the smarter choice (assuming both are new). you get some free games preformance is similar and you dont have to play russian roulette with the 320..13 drivers again (the latest nvidia drivers were bad i ran the risk of my gtx 680 bricking)

if preformance is all that matters to you the gtx 660 is the superior beat. if you dont care and want something that will at least not get killed by the company that made it (or runs the risk of), then again your choice is clear its the hd 7870

I'm not sure if it was those drivers that bricked my 580 to be honest - happened a fortnight ago, but my computer refused to boot after shutting it down overnight. Absolutely strange, not sure what gigabytes warrenty policy either, but it's outside of the 1 year store RMA. How's the 7950? It's $70 aud more then the 7870, which isn't too bad. Mind you I'm only gaming at 1080p.

They have similar performance. Some games run faster on one and some on the other but the 7870 has better OC potential. I'd say get the cheapest one unless you play many games that favour AMD. You'll be fine either way.

Edit: The 7950 would be of course better than both if you can afford it.

DCU II 670 is only $299 at Computer Alliance, if you want to spend a bit more.

That's one heck of a deal.

Was even better when they had the OC variant for the same price. :P Jumped on that deal as soon as I saw it.

I typically play a variety of games, at the moment I'm most concerned with ArmA III and playing that at reasonable enough settings - so honestly not sure about where I get performance, as long as it's generally solid and better or around my 580 (which I was pretty happy with, even if that power draw was huge).
