So I'm a fool for this but Assassins Creed Unity was on sale on steam, and I just so happen to be a sucker for steam deals so I bought the game. I should've known, but my computer can not run AC Unity worth a damn thing. I played all of the past Assassins Creed games on my computer, but with the overhaul AC Unity has, My computer can't handle it. Whenever I play, I probably get 1 - 5 fps and I freeze 24/7. This, and the countless bugs and glitches such as getting stuck in the floor or wall every 2 minutes makes this game unplayable. I want to know if theres any possible way to get the game to be a little more playable?

You should probably post your PC specs before we can go any further. Most likely your computer doesn't meet the minimum specification for the game.

Probably not, and I thought I had my specs in my signature, but I guess not:

Intel Core i5-3210M CPU @ 2.50GHZ

Nvidia Geforce GT 630M

AC:Unity is not the most optimized game, but your specs are terrible. There is nothing that can be done. I recommend giving up on the game until you have a more capable system. Stay away from laptops in general unless you are willing to spend a lot ($1,500+). Even then, you will be able to get a much more capable desktop rig for cheaper.

Unity is for the new consoles plus isnt the best coded game.

It asks for a quad core cpu you only have a dual core,

Sorry you laptop is not up to the task to run this game. it needs a gpu like 4x faster then what you have to play it on high around 30 fps.

I see, that's the answer I was afraid of but I guess I knew was coming. I guess I just wasted $40 on this game I can't even play.

bulllllllllllllllshit.

played through the entire game, never ran into a single major bug. game ran between 30 and 45FPS the vast majority of the time.

sure there were some oddities... but nothing game breaking, and nothing that even caused me any real issues.

so yeah... something stinks in here.

Problem isn't the game, it's your specs.

The game isn't the most optimized, but it still is a heavy game with lots going on with it.

Your video card and CPU are too weak.

My laptop has an i5 3230m with HD 4000/GTX 660m graphics which makes the CPU a bit better than my desktop Phenom II X3 720 and the video equal to a GTS 450. Even at the native res of 1366x768, I think AC: U is beyond what my laptop can run satisfactorily.

Perhaps if I run AC: U windowed at 800x600 with Lowest details, it might be marginally playable.

Before patch 4 I would agree with you. I was running over 70fps maxes (minus AA) at 1440p. Now there is crazy flickering problems when using SLI.

I don't know what to do about it. I guess I'll just have to deal with being stupid and buying this game without checking the requirements. I'll buy a console soon since I know the new upcoming games won't be playable on my laptop.

Or, you know, buy a new gaming laptop or better still, a gaming desktop and play every game in it's superior version?

i would definitely not say -every- game....and superior is a matter of opinion.

also... gaming laptop = 1K+... gaming desktop = 800+....console= 350 for xb1 or 400 for PS4. much less expensive.

Most games.... and superior as in better framerate, cheaper game, mods (when available), free online play, better graphics, better choice of controls (thousands of keyboards/mice and controllers to choose from), the list goes on. And yeah, a PC does a million more things than a console apart from gaming.

As for price. The consoles are cheaper at the start, but in the long run a PC costs the same or even cheaper. Console games are always $20-$30 more expensive, you have to pay about $80 x year to play online etc etc.

Umm... no... You can build some nice setups for under $800
Rock solid build w/ i5-4690K, Z97 mobo, brand new GTX 960 - $725

or even better, a build that will last quiet sometime.

Rock solid build w/ i5-4690K, Z97 mobo, R9 290 - $780

you could even go AMD for around $700 but I'd recommend going with intel for a tiny bit more.

If you are fine with the pathetic 900p and sub 30fps with reduced graphics settings, by all means buy a console and play Unity on it. It will certainly be better than your laptop. However, the smart thing to do would be to invest that console money into getting a new PC. For the record, I own all the consoles (including PS4 and XB1) and I do not touch them unless it is an exclusive game. Third party games on console is a big no-no.

this is exactly what has prevented me from buying a console. Every time i have come close to buying one i just decide to spend the money on a pc upgrade. if you factor in console accessories and games you get a better experience on pc for the same money. of course if you didn't have a pc at all that would significantly add to the cost but most machines get huge performance gains from just a new GPU.

It's silly and true indeed, but with that small difference in price it's an easy choice imo.

I'm confused by that last sentence...unless you get a deal on a PC game they usually cost the same as console games as many are 60 bucks now, with certain ones being 50. Also who pays 80 bucks a year for online, it's 60 for XBL, 50 for PSN+ and Wii U's online is free.

Depends where you buy but everywhere I see PC games are always at least $10 cheaper. This is obviously because console games take licensing or royalties or whatever it's called.

The online thing is still an additional cost, where on PC it's free.

@OP: The 680 GTX minimum requirement is no joke.

Keep in mind that this is a game that runs in 1600x900 at 15-25 fps on the new consoles which surpass your specs by far

HA! Ubishafteeeed!

No, but seriously... . If you'd met minimum requirements and it had still run like crap, you could probably have got a refund. Actually, if you're in the EU, you probably can anyway:

I'm confused by that last sentence...unless you get a deal on a PC game they usually cost the same as console games as many are 60 bucks now, with certain ones being 50. Also who pays 80 bucks a year for online, it's 60 for XBL, 50 for PSN+ and Wii U's online is free.

New PC games tend to be $60 this is true, but Steam Sales means you get great deals in a couple months that I've yet to see replicated on the console side, even used games are ridiculously over priced.

Unity is buggy as hell but I don't think it's actually that badly optimised. If you meet the admittedly high requirements, it utilises all cpu cores equally, which is more than can be said for a lot of other titles (Dying Light) and maximises gpu usage too. Using the latest patch I could get a mostly solid 60 fps at ultra, bar a few settings, with a gtx 970 and i5 3570k.

It's the npc bugs that were my biggest issue and they really ruined the immersion. I ended up pretending they were Animus glitches to get through the game.

@OP: The 680 GTX minimum requirement is no joke.

Keep in mind that this is a game that runs in 1600x900 at 15-25 fps on the new consoles which surpass your specs by far

To be fair ACU is running at 23-30 on X1 with comparable high setting on PC with no micro shutter, which is better than 95% PC gamers can have. I don't see why $350 for someone who doesn't want to deal with spec(meaning TC)to get desirable graphic is a bad option.

That's right the XB1 runs this game better than PS4, i forgot.

I agree it's definitely a good option for someone who wants to save themselves the pain of dealing with high specs

@GoldenElementXL I can confirm the flicking on SLI, solution = go in and out of a loading screen, problem solved(why the heck we need to do that? I know) yes, the game also runs better at launch for me too, but too many animation bugs made me nuts.

edit: I noticed co-op rarely worked for latest PC games, dying light, ACU, Farcry4 etc, I live in southern CA,

You are not the only one who can't play AC Unity even i can't play it properly though i own a PC with GTX titan, Core i7-4790k and 32GB DDR3 RAM and guess what FPS dropped even more after performance update. F* you Ubisoft.
