A good CPU/GPU combo for my possible upgrade

So Christmas is around the corner so that's basically saying here's some money for you to spend on whatever!

Anyway I'm looking to upgrade my processor and graphics card soon (mainly the processor, my graphics card is fine), and I was wondering what are some good recommendations on both of them for an upgrade.

Some help for you guys, I have a LGA 1155 motherboard and I'm looking for the price of both to be under $500 US dollars, but a little over won't kill me.

My current CPU is the Intel i3-2120.

A 67 motherboard(1155) will support ivybridge CPU's, so you won't need to upgrade your motherboard and the difference between a 3570K and a 4670K is nothing worth shouting about.

Just in case what motherboard do you have?... Check to see if it supports ivybridge and if it does get the GTX 760 at the moment in that price range its best performer.

Pretty much this. Intel hasn't changed much since 1st gen i series so 3570K is great if its supported. GTX 760 is around $250 and offers good performance for the price (third party models offer stock GTX 670/7970 performance for a good price).

the geforce 760 is a better bargain than the r9 270. Right now all the radeon cards are over priced because of the huge demand. Normally, the 7970/r9 280x would be competing in price with a 760, and a 7950 could be found for $200. Bad time to be a pc gamer atm.

Prices didn't go up for the R9 270X;

its still over priced, the r9 270x = 7870 IIRC. I remember that the 7870 XT was going on sale for around $130 a month and a half back. It was the power color edition but still it was an awesome deal. The 760 is over priced as well, but thats classic nvidia pricing, so yeah as I said its a pretty bad time for people buying into PC gaming.

Good news that motherboard supports Ivy Bridge so you don't need to change it. Just order a i5 3570K and for a GPU you have two options:

1. GTX 760
2. R9 270 X

The GTX 760 is faster than a stock 270X but costs more. A overclocked 270X is almost as fast as a GTX 760 but if you overclock a GTX 760 then a 270X stands no chance.

Its up to you which you go for just look at the reviews for the two and decide on one. Either way your going to get a big performance jump from your 6870.

To recap get a i5 3570k and either of the two cards above and your golden.
