8800 GTS 640MB - $450

8800 GTS 320MB - $300

Fairly large price difference.... $440 is a little too pricy for me but $300 is great.... but I get half as much memory. I've heard that the memory loss doesn't affect preformance as much as one might think but I'm not so sure....

Any opinions???

My opinion is that I just bought a 8800 GTS 320MB instead of a 8800 GTS 640MB =D

The fact is that no games handle the two cards the same way, it may be faster in some case, and even slower in some cases(specialy if you get an overclocked 8800 GTS 320MB or overclock it)

If you're liking the 300$ price tag, then by all means, go for it...You won't notice much difference in performance, and if you look at the benchmarks on this website, then you will see the 320MB version scored just as good or higher in all tests, you don't need the 640MB version unless your running large resolutions...

It's pretty high, but you'd still be fine with the 320MB version... IMO even at your resoltion, I'd get the 320MB version...

That is definately a large resolution, and depending on what games you are looking to get, a 8800GTX might be necessary for all the eye candy.

On stores like Newegg and stuff, I've been able to see the 8800gts (640) reach prices nearing what the initial batches of 320MB gts's are currently being sold. That and since I already have a 640MB 8800gts, there's no reason for me to consider the 320MB version :)

An 8800GTS will definatly be sufficient, even for the eye candy...

Sorry, but I think you're being ridiculous to suggest a 320MB card for 1920x1200. At that resolution, getting a 512MB card at minimum is practically mandatory.

On nearly every game, yes, but I had Supreme Commander in mind. On the hardware guide (here at gamespot), the GTS got under 30fps at 1600x1200, so at 1920x1200... Not to mention, if you would add another monitor that cuts performance by 30-50%.

An 8800GTS easily outperforms a 7900GT, in that case, you should be good to go...

If you dont expect high fps, just playable ones (which is what you should expect), then I guess the GTS will be fine. With rebate, here is the 640MB version for $340. That is $60 more than the 320MB version after rebate.

Yeah, if you can do the extra 60-80$, it can't hurt to do it, and I wouldn't go with Leadtek, I've heard some bad things about them, I'd go with BFG, eVGA, or XFX...

Here's a link for the eVGA one (360$ after 30$ mail-in rebate)

To tell you the truth.... I'm about to RMA my 7900GT and might get a 320MB GTS in return if I'm lucky unless I can use this upgrade program the EVGA has and upgrade to a 640MB or even a GTX for cheap...... anyone know about this program?

I've heard some about the step-up program eVGA has to offer, if you want more details, I'd go to the eVGA website... Using the step-up to help fund your 640MB 8800GTS is a great idea..

EDIT:
Here's the link if you want more info abouyt eVGA Step-Up program...

Well, maybe a friend or relative will buy it... Maybe even E-Bay, but I usually see Video Cards not selling too well there...
