I just joined since I heard the community here was very helpful. I'm on the market for a new PC, preferably $1000- $500, but i'm sort of cheap so i found this. It's right on the line, but as long as it can run my favorite, PAYDAY: The Heist at medium high I'm all for it. http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-AS5560-8480-15-6-Inch-Laptop/dp/B006LWUPJC/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1354065029&sr=1-2&keywords=acer+aspire+as5560g-7809 Also, I'm planning to play Far Cry 3, but obviously this would not be able to handle it. I checked the specks on notebook check, and the graphics card isn't half bad, for the price though its a beast. Most laptops at this price could not handle half as well. However, I'm only on the market for a laptop, and yes, I know that desktops are better but I need something for travel and portability. I think this is the best i can do, but help is appreciated.

Far Cry 3 won't even run on low and Payday most likely on low\med

Find yourself a laptop/notebook that has at least :

CPU : Pentium Dual Core Sandy Bridge II

Memory : 4 GB DDR3

GPU : gt 540m/gt 630m/6650m/7670m

With that you would be able to play Far Cry 3 with low settings 720p without V-sync or AA or other DirectX options at 30-40 fps .

I would recommend :

CPU : I5 Sandy or Ivy Bridge

Memory : 4 or 8 GB DDR3

GPU : gt 640m or higher

buy an acer laptop if you don't plan on using it for more than a few months their build quality and lcds are atrocious

No, that GPU is absolutely horrible. The Acer laptop the other poster recommended has a much better GPU. If you want to spend at most US$500,00, and not US$1000,00 as you said (it's a pretty big range, and you can get some significantly good laptops for USD1000,00), I'd recommend the Asus K or N line (check that they have dedicated GPUS) solely because of Asus' laptop build quality (statistically, they're the laptop brand with the lowest failure rate - above, including, Apple and Sony).

If you're in N. America or Europe I believe the model available is K53TA, which has a slightly inferior GPU than the 7670, though it would, theoretically, run games that support xfire better than the 7670m. Here are some links to have an idea:

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Asus-K53TA-SX026V-Fusion-Notebook.62849.0.html- review

http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/601808-k53ta-best-deal-ever-could.html- forum thread discussing the laptop, its performance, how to OC its GPU and CPU, etc. Very informative.

If you're willing to spend more, you should check the HP Envy series (though HP is also notorious for shoddy builds) and the Lenovos with dedicated GPUs.

The one for $529.99 (Acer Aspire V3-551G-8454 Notebook) that I linked to has a much better GPU. It has an AMD Radeon HD 7670M. It's about the same as a GT 630M.. Or for just a bit more than the one that you found, you can get this one. It has a GT 645M... $699.99 - MSI CX61 0NF-257US Notebook Intel Core i5 3210M NVIDIA GeForce GT 645M 15.6" screen 6GB DDR3 RAM 750GB HDD

You would rather use Vista than 8? Some people. 8 is just 7 with better memory management, performance and boot times, and a new Menu. Just get it and put an a direct icon to FarCry3. Problem solved.

Definitely not bro. I wouldn't rather use vista, of course not. I would much prefer 7 of course, but why i dont want 8 is because i can't run minecraft. If i could i would jump right on that deal. Is there a way to unlock minecraft for 8, because if so, I will definitely get the computer running 8.

You can use minecraft with windows 8. If you are referring to all the fuss, it's because notch is a neckbeard and refused to certify the app. As in, he was against following procedure for how his application should handle when different sleep states are activated, and the same universal unisntall/installers that other windows programs have.

Just realize that a $500 isn't gonna buy you a whole lot of gaming power in the laptop department, it will likely be able to only run averagely demanding games at medium settings, and probably won't be able to play new games at all within 1-2 years (especially with the new consoles coming out).

Don't worry, i already know that :). I'm a bit of a cheapass though, so I'm sort of stuck in between $400 and $800. I found a $600 with NVIDIA and an i5, heres the link http://www.buy.com/prod/acer-aspire-as5750-6653-15-6-notebook-intel-core-i5-2430m-2-40ghz-6gb/224166588.html?listingId=-1 I would prefer a desktop myself but because i'm constantly playing LAN with my buddies, and need something portable I'm stuck with laptops :/

No, that's a terrible GPU. Check notebookcheck and look at the GPUs, that one isn't even average. I recommend the Acer that was suggested, or, if you really want Windows 7, the Asus I posted.

Nah, don't get that one. It only has a gt 520m. You can get one with a gt 630m for that price at Newegg (Acer Aspire V3-571G-6407).. Or the one with the HD 7670m is only $529.99 (Acer Aspire V3-551G-8454 Notebook), and it performs about the same as the one with the gt 630m.. The one with the 2GB GT 645M for $699.99 (MSI CX61 0NF-257US Notebook) is by far the best one though. The GT 645m performs about the same as GTX 550 Ti, so it should be able to max almost any game out there on the 1366 x 768 screen...

I am thinking about the windows 8 one and i think i'll go for it, simply because i can still run minecraft on this PC on render distance normal. However, I have heard that steam is also refusing to allow access for win 8? Is that right, because if so defiantly not.

The whole "not running on Windows 8" hoopla has been blown way out of proportion. Windows 8 runs pretty much all the same major programs as Win7, the diiference is they aren't all being put on the Windows 8 App Store or whatever the hell it is.

I suggest my laptop (specs on my xfire page) hp 2284

Plays every game on my list on max except for FC 3 , Planetside 2 and Hitman Absoultion, but runs them at medium very well (except for planetside, low-medium due to **** optimization)

Just came in the mail, i chose one day shipping (I have a short patience span), and it runs payday at medium, and high with razer gamebooster. This matter is closed. Thank you!
