I seen a few benchmarks and right now with my 4 Core CPU my gtx 980 will double fps on medium quality and triple fps on extreme quality when directx12 comes out. With 6 cores though I seen an even bigger improvement. So should I keep my 4 Core CPU or spend the extra money to get a 6 Core CPU? Didn't see that big of a difference above 6 cores on the benchmarks. If so what's a good 6 Core CPU? Right now I have my CPU over clocked to a little bit above 4.0

Obviously 6 cores is better than 4 and will benefit even more from DX 12. It all depends on how much you want to spend. If your current CPU is not bottlenecking your GPU, there is no need to worry.

When I search for processors, I never notice how many cores they have.

How many cores does the 4690 have?

4 cores, but the 4690 has very fast cores. It will outperform any 6 or 8 core from amd (well maybe the fastest 8 core amd's will be faster but most games don't support 8 cores anyway)

Only the 6 and 8 cores from intel are interesting, if you look at performance of course. Amd cpu offerings can be interesting because they're cheaper.

There's no answer to this question yet. Until dx12 games come out, and benchmarks are run, all we can do is speculate.

What you should be asking yourself is;

Are you happy with your current performance?

------ Answer Yes; No need to upgrade.

------ Answer is No; Is the difference in performance worth the expenses of upgrading? (No, no need to upgrade. Yes, Go ahead and upgrade.)

Once DirectX12 games are released, put that in consideration. Right now, the performance gains you see are somewhat theoretical.

You need to give us more details about your processor.

I wouldn't bother upgrading to a haswell six-core.

A meaningful upgrade will probably come when skylake-E platform hits (the 6-8 core skylake) but that won't be a for awhile.

If you feel like you are not getting enough performance on your CPU, then just OC it.

@daious: Alright well I just got the CPU and it works really good to me so I will probably just stick with it till newer 6 Core processors come out. I already have it over clocked too. Double or triple fps is fine with me anyway.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think those FPS gains are found mostly only in benchmarks where the draw call limit is exploited. I wouldn't make any buying decisions based around those benchmarks.

Don't see why gamers give a shit about DX12 this early on...

Maybe in a years time there will be a DX12 game about to release in Q4 2016 that takes advantage, but its too damn early.

You wont see a big game release anytime this year.

i guess it depends on if you are talking hypothetical intel 4 cores vs AMD 6 cores, or intel 4 cores vs intel 6 cores.

intel 4 core vs AMD 6 core..... absolutely the intel 4 core. no question

intel 4 core vs intel 6 core.... no brainer, intel 6 core.

rule of thumb, just buy intel.

Indeed. It has been many builds since I have actually bought an AMD processor. I only ever bought one once. It was good, but Intel has always been better ever since. I don't even look at AMD anymore.

Honestly at this ponit you should go with 8.

Yes yes i know intel is more powerfull, but i dont think it will matter in the future thanks to amd and dx12/mantle mutithreading rendering.

Why would you make a change like that? The I5 2500k either matches or beats the 8350 most of the time..

yep, and in a game where individual core performance matters, like most RTS games or something like Arma, it's going to suffer on the amd

Hell I think there is a strong case that you shouldn't even upgrade from a I5 2500k to something like a 4790k inless your doing it for the new features.

@wis3boi: @sSubZerOo: @horgen: its exactly the same mate , even better at other games , Like dragon age ,

as my 2500k is in my brother computer .

Crysis 3 worked better , Dragon age , Dying light , the Evil within .. the only thing that i noticed that 2500 was better on is wow i lost like 10 fps .

It'd be way too expensive to upgrade to a nice 6 core for you. It means you'd have to get X99 + i7 5820K.
