Poll WYR be a police officer in a dangerous area or a soldier on the front line? (12 votes)
I think being a soldier on the front line would still be far more dangerous, so I'd take being a police officer.

What the hell's wrong with my text?
Whatever: I think being a soldier on the front line would still be far more dangerous, so I'd take being a police officer.
@gamerguru100: It's not your fault. Gamespot is having some issue with the polls, where the original post isn't showing up properly.
Jesus, first the link system, which was fine before, and now polls? DAMN IT.
*takes deep breaths to avoid bashing own head into wall out of anger*
:P
To answer you're question, I'll go with police officer, it's likely not as dangerous.
Agreed. At least you don't regularly have dozens of men shooting at you from unknown positions and ranges as a police officer.
Use common-sense. On the battlefield being on the front line only means whatever bullets, shrapnel or explosions come your way, it's going to most likely hit you first - so you're as good as dead or severely injured. On the other hand, being a Police officer in a bad neighbourhood, well... you've still got a chance to come out of it all unscathed considering you'd have 20 other police officers protecting themselves and the man next to them with a riot shield as we've seen in Baltimore. So you tell me, which one would you rather be?
Cop. It's not even in the top 10 of most dangerous jobs in the US.
I think in the US it's safer to be a cop then someone being arrested by a cop :P.
Yeah I'd rather be a police officer as well. Gimme dem stake-out doughnuts. :P
I'm with you on that. I sure don't think I'd mind it that much being a cop either. :P
Police officer. Then again, I'd probably take almost everything else before having anything to do with being a soldier.
After a few trips to Iraq you will find that in an insurgency almost anywhere you go is the front line, which is why you would see women not allowed to serve in front line positions (in the US military) being involved in fights and even being killed.
With that said, the current animosity against police officers makes me wonder about my safety in bad areas. If I'm a police officer in a bad area people that know my face may target me or my family even when I'm off duty.
On the other hand, if I go to a war zone I may be in danger while actively fighting the enemy but when I'm done I go home and while home I'm safe for the most part. While ISIS is encouraging their followers in the US to target servicemembers I haven't heard of any actually being attacked.
On the bright side, police officers usually get to go home to their family every night while troops in combat can be away from home for months at a time.
A soldier on the front-line without a doubt. I'd much prefer to die for the fatherland rather than to die busting crackheads in a slum.
I like your answer. :P

So, any statistics on how often that happens? Like, out of all of the cops working in "bad areas", how many of them are specifically targeted (on duty or off duty) specifically because they're cops? I don't have the statistics, but I've gotta imagine that it's pretty freaking unlikely and doesn't happen very often.
And to be clear, I'm not talking about cops being shot during a traffic stop or when trying to stop a robbery. I'm talking more along the lines of cops just minding their own business when someone goes up and murders them just for being a cop. I'm not denying that it happens, but it's gotta be a pretty rare occurrence.
