Poll Would you give up dignity for fame? (21 votes)

Yes 10%
No 90%

Today I was watching the xfactor (it was running in the background I do not watch this shit) and noticed something that annoyed me a fair bit.

One of the contestants on the show, asked (reasonably) for a mic stand. To which one of the judges sarcastically remarked "would you like anything else, a vodka, a gin in tonic?" .

The way the show was deliberately cut, it used quick snippets of audience reactions with disdain. Typically as well the show uses emotional piano music "a dream come true" bullshit, none was used here. it was to give the impression the audience wasn't impressed.

I kinda watched this asshole kissing butt and nodding her head as each judge basically said "you're shit and you suck as a person".

Personally, I would not go on a show or put up with bullshit like that for all the riches in the world. How about you fellows? Would about you? The end of the road resulting in millions of dollars, records sell millions e.t.c... would you throw dignity out the window?

Take into account as well, many of the people on these shows aren't even adults, many of them are kids or very young teenagers.

This is the clip here btw, kind hard to explain. Scroll down the bottom. Even the news attempts to tar the young girl by making out she's a "diva" and was "called out".

Apparently asking for for a mic stand on what is primarily a music show makes you Hitler.

Never watched the show, and while I wouldn't exclude the possibility of going to a tv show, I wouldn't go to a show like the one you describe. My dignity, reputation and self-esteem are (to me) some of the most important things about myself.

I wouldn't give up my dignity for fame, but I'd sure as hell give up my dignity for enough money. Give me the financial freedom to do whatever the hell I want, and you can have my dignity.

For a record that sells millions? No. Because I wouldn't get millions from that after having to pay for everything involved before, during, and even after.

Now if you're putting millions, plural, after taxes in my hand/bank account then sure.

Wealth can not buy you happiness if you had to give up your dignity to get it. Look at how people are remembered and though of by other people. All fame is fleeting.

Is that so. So a person without dignity can't be happy?

Nope. I might give up some dignity for wealth though. Fame is something I'd actively avoid.

It can buy peace of mind. Put that above happiness.

Can't eh?

Is a rape victim a person without dignity?

While their dignity may have been temporarily injured [could be permanently altered], they don't lose the capacity to be a dignified human being.

So can a rape victim achieve a state of happiness later in their life? Yes.

Can a person without dignity be happy? Yes, dignity isn't necessarily a pre-requisite for happiness.

I agree with you but I only gave you a temporary image. A fame gained with losing one's dignity, will only last for a time and then disappear leaving one in a state of despair and utter embarrassment. Losing one's dignity over and over again might even permanently injure one soul.

Dignity is a necessary pre-requisite for happiness. Because the happiness you gain after losing your dignity, is a temporary happiness or even just a delusion.

That's a load of crap. For starters, the quote chain you're replying to isn't even about giving up dignity for fame, it's about giving up dignity for WEALTH. Fame usually only lasts for a short time, but if you're not a dumbass, then WEALTH can easily last you your entire life.

Also, even if you do give up your dignity for wealth, then being rich as shit makes it a hell of a lot easier to get your dignity back. You might get super-rich for acting like a moron, but then all you've gotta do is take a portion of your wealth and use it to start a charity or save a village, and bam...there's your dignity. You've contributed something to humanity and you've still got enough money left to be wealthy for the rest of your life. The thing about giving up dignity for wealth is that wealth can actually do a really good job of buying dignity. If you sell your dignity for a high enough price, then you can turn right around and buy your dignity back and still have a shitload of money left over.
