My immediate family (my mother and father) is a mixed bag. I would consider my father wealthy, however he clearly does not spend much. Possibly less than my mother, who is most certainly not rich. My father's parents are very wealthy. My mother's family is large and mostly middle class, though a couple of her sisters are very wealthy now. I once lived in a very rich household, however my parents' divorce meant that I could no longer live in a big house with nice things. I don't really remember it though, so big deal. I just worry I'm a rich kid who just so happens to be poor.
we have a small house but it's the perfect size for the two of us, two cars that aren't high end but they run and they're paid for, no debts to speak of and some cash stashed away, a little time to travel, friends who are loyal and smart, all the books we could read and games we could play. i don't care about being "rich" but i care about being happy and i'm happy.
but let's be honest, it's hard to be happy if you're stressed about money. too many people live under constant financial stress - too many are families with two working parents - something has to change for them.
I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I come from an upper class family, if not upper upper class. I'm 29 years only and working in the mental health field, so I'm certainly not even close to being rich myself. But I know my parents are worth over $40 million in cash, investments and assets.
On the plus side they've given soooooo much away to charitable organizations that I have all the respect in the world for them. They continue to surprise me every year with their generosity. I think that has a lot to do with their background as lower-middle and middle-****individuals. Their wealth is self-made, so they’re not very far removed from those in need.
Hmm, well, I didn't qualify for financial aid when applying to colleges. My parents have too much in assets, income, and the like. Not like I even needed any, though. :D
