Thought's? I personally feel no pity for the man. One reaps what one sows. Not to sound heartless or anything but it's very irresponsible for someone to become so extremely obese to the point where you have to have other people take care of you in your adulthood while one sits on a bed for years without getting up. It's disgusting. I'm not happy that he died either, I just believe that he was a low quality human being.

Actually if this is the guy I remember seeing a documentary about, he had a condition that caused absolutely TREMENDOUS swelling which is what led to his enormous weight, not only cause of how much the swelling alone added, but because it completely crippled him.

We are talking he had lymphnodes swelling up to basketball size which you are NOT doing much of anything with that going on.

If we're looking at this arbitrarily, this was a low quality human being. His body functioned poorly, it was poorly taken care of, and he died prematurely. In the automotive world, he'd be known as a lemon, in the electronic world, he'd be known as defective. There's no high horse, just pointing out faulty hardware. I feel no pity for people who don't value their own lives, nor should I have to. No other species does.

Normally what you hear are stories of people so fat (although obvious not as fat as he was) they die at home without proper treatment because they're "too fat to be transported". Yup, Manuel is the guy I was thinking of. The documentary is called "The World's Heaviest Man". It may not say it on wikipedia, but the man had serious swelling issues that really screwed him over (not as if he was the pinnacle of healthy before but still).

There is lots of people who have eating disorders, they don't grow over a ton. Letting an eating disorder make you that large is hurting someone, yourself and in turn everyone around you that cares for you.

I never said he was a low quality human, I simply stated that saying he hurt no one was absurd. I think we, as a culture, tend to overlook peoples mistakes and downfalls simply because of a medical issue. There are lots of people in this world that have medical conditions that are legit and stop them from living what most would call a full life, but then there are lots of people who let their so called 'medical condition' run their lives and use it as an excuse to leach off others.

Could this man have lived a better life, despite his medical condition? Certainly. Did he live a full life? 48 years, a loving family, and hell if I know how, a wife.. I would say he did. Was he a 'low quality human being'? It's very possible he was, and I'll never know. I'm just saying, would his loving family preferred to not HAVE to feed him, bathe him, and attend to his every need? If someone in my family was in that condition, I would do what I could to help, but I would most definitely prefer to not be required to. If he was in the condition he was, who paid for his medical? Who paid for his food? who paid for him? In the US, he would have been paid for no doubt by the tax payers. Who did he hurt with his inability to cope with his medical condition? Himself, his family, his friends.. I'd say he hurt people.
