With religion, have we basically been wrong all these years?

Like when we thought the world was flat. Is it possible that the soul might be another thing we have been wrong about?

In your opinion.

How the heck are we supposed to know? The world is a physical object. Not spiritual, like the soul. But don't worry. Your questions may all be answered in the afterlife...

Just because it's hard doesn't mean we can't figure it out. Working out how fire was made must have been hard at one time.

You could say that about ANYTHING at all -- any type of current knowledge, even of the scientific type. This thread is a bit lame -- seems to me like an attempt at flame-baiting, 'cos you're delliberately implying that religion is wrong.

You know the world would make more sense of all religions where basically wrong. It would explain to us where we came from and where we are going.

Because religion itself displays how we have progressed from blanket faith to rational and scientific method through investigation and observation.

Could such a concept be argued false over the internet? A tool that owes it's very creation to the emergence of scientific method and rational thought over blanket faith?

Well, science is based on fundamental fundamental beliefs , and it doesn't tell us as much as one might at first think -- a lot of it is very theoretical, and it does have its limits. I think it would be pretty impossible for science to tell us 'where we are going'. I don't think you can work this out via observation - you could make a prediction though. Also, science can explain reason, but not purpose.

Early on there was a lot of falsehood and not a lot of truth. Currently there is some falsehood and some truth. In the future there will be more thruth and less falsehood.

Humans are a curious race. There is only so much time before we grow tired of old falsehoods and search out the truth in it's entirety.

That is where we are going.

Sure you can with a little bit of rational thought.

Name one aspect of a human being that cannot be explained by the body.

Except that fire is a tangible, perceptible thing, not an ineffable transcendent like the soul. Empirical and observational methods aren't really applicable to something that, by definition cannot be quantified or observed.

We shouldn't make assumptions that there is a "heaven" or "hell" or a "god" for that matter.

While it is known that the seat of consciousness is the brain, numerous aspects of human character and variation cannot thusfar be accounted for by brain differences.
