Why is Smirnoff Ice considered a "women's drink"?

I dont get it, if somebody ask you if you like to drink, you can't say "Not much, a smirnoff once in a while" because they'll call you by a lot of homophobic nicknames. "Smirnoff is a girl's drink!".

At first I thought it was because it wasn't much of an alcoholic drink, but then I read on some stuff and it turns out smirnoff ice has more alcohol than a beer.

So it has more alcohol, thus its easier to get drunk, and it has a decent taste, its like taking away everything wrong with the beer and just leaving the good stuff.

So people really think that you're a "girl" if you drink it because it doesn't tastes like sht?

Anyway, I don't drink the stuff often, but I've got nothing against "girly drinks." Sure it's basically like soda or kool aid or juice, but so what? I like soda and kool aid and juice. Sometimes I'm not in the mood for a beer, I'm in the mood for something sweet and fruity. When that happens, it's nice if the stuff can also get me drunk.

I can only recall having the black a few times, but I think the smirnoff ice is passable enough.

Did you read the part where I said it has more alcohol than a beer? A person who drinks 5 smirnoffs without getting drunk has more alcohol tolerance than a person who drinks 5 beers.

So who cares how it tastes? you get drunk way faster, not to mention the taste helps you drink it fast, I hate to go drinking with friends because it literally takes them 40 minutes to finish their drink, when im done in 10.

So with beer it would be 40$ later.

I don't know what your issue with beer is tc (my issue is that it tastes like piss water), but I do find it interesting that the same people who tell you smirnoff is a girls drink will also be the ones to break out bullfrog ingredients at parties. I use to drink smirnoff, but these days I really prefer various hard ciders, or just whiskey on the rocks.

Drink whatever you like TC, but don't be afraid to try other drinks also. Unless those other drinks are composed of more than %50 alcohol, then I suggest being cautious.

Smirnoff is usually 80 proof = 40% alcohol content. 1 proof = .5%. Smirnoff makes a lot of flavored Vodka, the Raspberry one being my favorite. They're easy to drink if you're new to drinking, and there's no need for chasers. I'm okay with just pure vodka when it's cold or just pouring it in a glass of cranberry.

I dont drink anymore but when i did i used to drink bells whisky.

I love it. Its the stuff that got me into drinking. My cousins dared me to chug 3 Smirnoff ICE and two beers in under 5 min and give me $500. Mind you this was when I first started drinking, so doing that was probably drinking like 15 shots...suffice to say I got the $500, but I puked pretty bad.

Why is pink considered a girl's color? Or The Notebook considered a chick flick? A social stigma is and always will be associated with certain things, the sweet taste of Smirnoff Ice and other wine coolers tend to be marketed toward women more and usually many women like them. That being said drink what you want and don't let the opinions of others throw you off something you like. Personally none of my friends can stand Bud Platinum, doesn't change my opinion of it.

I wouldn't consider Smirnoff ice to be cheap vodka. If you want cheap vodka you'd buy a bottle of actual vodka.

Russia makes great vodka. England, not so much.

Its sweetened up and is targeted towards women who often tend to like sweetened drinks.

I dint know anyone who drinks Smirnoff Ice so I can't really say from personal experience of this stereotype, granted most of my friends drink beer, mainly micro brews (Oregon has so many... >.> ). Looking online it looks like Ice has 5.5% ABV, that's pretty decent. More than cheap beers. You should try some microbrews sometime, they seem to average around 6%-6.5% ABV. A half dozen of those should get you a nice buzz haha. As for this Smirnoff Ice, I may try it out and I honestly could give a two shits about what people think, if it tastes good who cares, right? But, if I'm getting vodka in any form, I'll go with an actual bottle of vodka (Smirnoff 100 proof being my preference).

I drink my vodka straight from a sipping cup. Sometimes normal smirnoff vodka. Most people not just women think that is gross( though they will do shots)

So companys like smirnoff sweeten them up to make them taste good. Its considered girly. I dont think its girly myself but it is a waste.

And I agree with those that think beer tastes good.

At least here in the US, Smirnoff Ice is a malt beverage and brewed just like beer and has no vodka in it. It even has the same amount of alcohol as a beer. It just happens to have a sweet and fruity taste to it (from the malt). Many look at sweet drinks as a girl's drink. The reaction to stuff like Smirnoff Ice is similar to the reaction people had to wine coolers back in the late 80s. If you like it, drink it. I like beer and whiskey so that is what I drink. I don't care what someone else drinks.

@lightleggy: Sweet drinks are girly drinks. That's pretty much what it comes down to. Beer and hard liquors are not girly drinks and they don't inherently taste bad. Generally the difference (in this case) is that men drink something for the experience of drinking it while women are just trying to get drink and act like they're on Sex and the City. Wine IS a relatively sweet drink but it's something that both men and women drink for the experience (or to unwind) and isn't considered a girly drink. Anybody with a respect for alcohol will tell you that you should taste the alcohol or you're not doing it right.

Which is all well and good. The occasions when I do really want to get drunk, there's nothing quite like a (sweet) Grateful Dead or Alabama Slammer. About 3 shots each and it goes down like water.

It's sad that people try to make drinks gender specific.

I don't consider it to be a girly drink, but I do think it's a crappy drink. Although I don't knock others who enjoy it. I just prefer my vodka served in other ways.

Sweet or easy drinks are considered girly drinks. You really didn't know that? There are only few exceptions (maybe hard cider isn't too scoffed at...)

Just kidding. I don't really care about what I drink or what other people drink. I like sweet stuff and I don't mind nastier tasting stuff. I'd never give people **** for their choice of drink, but hell, I'd get teased occasionally even when just buying Gin. We live in a dumb world with dumb people. In my mind, whoever can hold more liquor at the end of the night is the man. But it's really unimportant.

Smirnoff Ice does not have any vodka if it is made in the US. It is a malt beverage and brewed just like beer is.
