Why does the beef at the grocery store tastes so much better? My family butchered a cow and the meat tastes so nasty. I guess theres more to just butchering a cow like a deer. We threw it away because we didnt think it tastes right. Whatever they do to the meat at the grocery store,I guess we cant do at home. I wonder if deer could taste so much better if they sold it at the grocery store.

My parents used to buy meet straight from the butcher that cut it up. Tasted good. Maybe the animal wasn't fed properly.

I'd take beef from a butcher shop any day over any grocery store.

So what was it fed? Was it taken care of, or was it frail and thin?

Corn I think. Cow got hit with a car and the guy said we could butcher it. Just had a broke leg.

Cows intended for food are fed specifically for that purpose. That is why wild animals taste different than animals that are raised for food. Try a wild turkey next Thanksgiving if you don't believe me....

Still haven't said what cuts were used; seems like it was butchered with no knowledge of where to get the meat from

Hang on, was it a cow or a bull? I think in the UK at least commerical beef comes from bulls whereas cows are used to milk predominantly.

Also, was the blood properly drained and all? If it wasn't that can make meat taste icky.

Butchers are far greater than grocery meat imo. I always buy my meat from my local butcher.

I guess they cut whatever meat they could off. Its was a pretty young cow. Probably half the size of an adult.

It could be the adrenaline released when it was hit by the truck that made it taste bad.

That and what it ate, how old it was and whether it was a cow meant for butchering.

I think the exact opposite. My family raises our own beef so I always think the meat we get from the store or eating out tastes funny.

What in the... So many questions... Did you hit the cow with the car? Was it already dead when you took it to get butchered? Was the broken leg infected? Why the f*** would you decide to butcher a cow in this situation regardless of my above questions?

Some drunk people hit it. My dad shot it in the head. I dont know if the leg was infected or not. My family butchered it in the backyard. They threw the meat away because it didnt taste so good.
